Historically, Medina (In 622) became the seat of prophet Mohammad’s (PBHU) growing movement after the Hijra. Prophet Mohammad was invited to come and live in Yathrib (the old name of Medina) in 622.

Madina’s importance as a holy city for Muslims derives from the presence of the Masjid al Nabawi, the Mosque of the Prophet. Places to Visit in Medina

  • Go shopping at the old bazaar. In one of the main streets of Medina is the crowded and exciting old bazaar. Here, you can buy typical Arabian products perfect for a vacation souvenir.
  • Hike and climb Mount Uhud. Consisting of a group of mountains that measures 7 km long and 3 km wide, Mount Uhud is sure to bring out the adventurer in you. Be prepared to see something unique when you reach the peak.

The Battle of Uhud is the second most important battle in early Islamic history.  According to the Islamic calendar, it was fought on the 3rd Shawwal 3 AH

Today, the battlefield of Uhud is a major pilgrimage site.

The mountain (Uhud) rises about 3,500 feet (1,077 meters), and it can be climbed to have a better view and observe the battlefield. The Uhud Martyrs Cemetery is also nearby, where 85 of the fallen Muslim soldiers are buried.
