Destination Guide

Pahalgam - Holiday Tour Packages

Pahalgam is one of the most well-known tourist destinations in India. It has a mild climate (its temperature doesn't go beyond 25 degrees Celsius even during summer), which makes it popular among people who want to escape the sultry heat. It's also the location of many Bollywood movies (including Betaab, Tahaan, and Sikandar), causing many film fans to flock to the town and explore the places where their favorite actors shot their scenes. Pahalgam's natural beauty is relatively untouched, and its pristine mountains and rivers attract tourists who want to relax and spend time with nature during their Kashmir Holiday

Places to visit in Pahalgam

  • Betaab Valley - Snow-covered mountains and pretty green meadows surround this beautiful valley, which is named after a popular Bollywood film. The Lidder River (which is home to brown trout and river trout, among others) runs through the valley, making it an ideal spot for fishing. Betaab Valley also serves as a base camp for those who would like to explore the surrounding mountains.
  • Aru - Aru is a picturesque village that serves as a base point for those who want to trek to Kolahoi Glacier, Katernag Lake, Tarsar Lake and other attractions. Even those who don't want to explore these sights should still visit Aru so they can enjoy its postcard-perfect meadows and peaceful atmosphere.

Things to do in Pahalgam

  • Check out Pahalgam's 18-hole golf course and play a few rounds of golf.
  • Go fishing in the Lidder River. (Those who do so must first obtain a fishing permit from the Directorate of Fisheries.)
  • Take a trek around the area and explore Pahalgam's lakes and mountains.
  • No Kashmir holiday is complete without some souvenir shopping! Visit the local shops in Pahalgam to buy colorful floor coverings called gabbas and namdas as well as other wool products

Top attractions in Pahalgam

  • Amarnath Cave - This cave is famous because of the 40-meter stalagmite that forms inside it. The stalagmite, which forms vertically from the cave floor upwards, is considered by the Hindus to be a lingam (a symbol of the Hindu god Shiva). There are two other ice formations in the area, which are attributed to Shiva's son Ganesha. Because of stalagmite lingam, Amarnath Cave is considered as a holy shrine to Shiva and attracts thousands of pilgrims every year. It is covered in snow most of the time except for a short period in summer. During this time, people can enter the cave and observe the lingam.
  • Kolahoi Glacier - The Kolahoi Glacier is part of the northwestern Himalayan Range. Its highest peak, called Kolahoi Peak, stands at 5,425 meters. Kolahoi gets the attention of many tourists who travel to India, especially those who can't believe that the country has its own glaciers.
