A sprawling and bustling metropolis, Casablanca is the economic and industrial hub of Morocco. It may be not as enticing as other cities, what with the crowd and fast-paced way of life, but it is definitely worth checking out.

 

Places to Visit in Casablanca

  • Old Medina - Located North of the Place des Nations Unies is Casablanca’s traditional walled town. It is smaller and less fancy than Marrakesh or Fes, but still worth checking out. 
  • Aïn Diab Plage - Casablanca’s beach is not something you’d normally expect, but that’s what makes it a must-visit during your vacation. The water has some hazardous rip currents and going swimming only happens when the water cooperates. It would be pure luck if you happen to visit at the right time. But it provides a great venue for sightseeing & activities, such as people watching and eating popcorn. 
  • The Corniche - Do you feel like going western during your vacation in Casablanca? The Corniche has some western fast food chains that you can dine in. This ocean-side neighborhood used to be a thriving resort area, but it has seen better days. Nonetheless, the nightclubs lining across it have nightlife potentials. 

There are plenty more places to visit in Casablanca, and the choice of things to do is really up to you. 

 

Things to do in Casablanca

  • Go sightseeing and join in the hustle and bustle of the city. This might not be what usually comes to mind when you travel to Morocco, what with the country’s overall old and traditional vibe, but seeing the modern side of it is a different experience. 
  • Hit the beach to do everything else but swim. No place else would you be able to do that than in Casablanca. And imagine eating popcorn on the shore.
  • Do some shopping at the souks or the more modern shopping centers – Morocco Mall or Anfa Place Mall. The only difference between the two is that you can’t haggle at the mall.
  • Spend time at hammams for some well-deserved relaxation and pampering.

  • The King Hassan II Mosque - The largest in Morocco and the third largest in the world, The King Hassan II Mosque is something you definitely must visit when in the city. It is relatively new, however. Still, with a tallest minaret in the world, you would want to check it out, regardless if it’s old or new. 
  • The Shrine of Sidi Abderrahman - This is only accessible when the tide is low, as it is built on a rock offshore. It is not open to non-Muslims, but it has a Medina-like neighborhood that you can explore.
