Thekkady - Kumarakom (120 Kms)
By early morning, you will be taken to a tour of the spice plantations in Periyar with a naturalist and see the wide variety of spices, including pepper, cardamom and nutmeg, before returning to your hotel for breakfast.
Afterwards, you will check out to head to Kumarakom, which is known as the land of lakes and lagoons. Upon arrival, you will check in to a lakeside resort in Kumarakom and enjoy some time to relax.
Then you will be given a range of leisure options, including Ayurveda massage, sunset cruise or a visit to the bird sanctuary.
If you are a bird lover, you would love to take the tour to the bird sanctuary, which is spread across 14 acres, to see an interesting variety of birds.
Between June and August, the sanctuary sees the breeding season of the resident wetland birds, such as the little cormorants, Indian darters, white ibis, kingfishers and different species of egrets and herons.
Between the months of November and May, there are some rare migratory birds that haunt the region’s woods and bushes, such as pin-tailed ducks, Garganey teals, spot-billed ducks, as well as birds of prey, such as marsh harriers, ospreys and steppe eagles.
After your exploration, you will then spend the rest of the night at your resort at Kumarakom.
