Covering India’s east region, West Bengal has 6 regions, one of which is Kolkata. It is the state’s largest city and the center of Bengali culture. That says a lot about the things to do and see in this vibrant city, also known as the City of Joy. Feast your eyes on the impressive architectures of the Victoria Memorial, Howrah Bridge, Magen David Synagogue and the Jain Temple. You should also take a tour of the University of Calcutta and follow Mother Teresa’s Mission and see the Mother House.
Explore the Himalayas aboard a train - A holiday in West Bengal would be incomplete without a ride aboard the Toy Train or the UNESCO-listed Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. It is the highest railway station in India and will take you to Mt Kanchenjunga. Make the most of your trip and visit the Tibetan Buddhist monuments of Gangtok and the Himalayan towns of Bagdogra and Sikkim. For a spot of wildlife, check out the Padmaja Naidu zoo for a personal encounter with the Himalayan wolves and snow leopards.
Climb the Tiger Hill - One of the most popular tourist attractions in Darjeeling is the Tiger Hill, the region’s highest point. From the top, you can see Mt. Kanchenjunga and Mt. Everest in the distance. Move further inside the forest to experience the mesmerizing atmosphere of the Sinchel Temple.
