Overview

Named the #1 Day Hike in Canada by Lonely Planet! Sunshine Meadows are known by many as the most stunning alpine setting in the Canadian Rockies. Situated at an average elevation of 2220m (7,300'), the meadows straddle the Continental Divide and the boundary between Alberta and British Columbia. Surrounded by some of the Rockies' highest peaks, the unobstructed views are beyond compare. Wildlife abound in the meadows, and the brilliance of the summer flowers and autumn larches guarantees spectacular scenery on every visit.

Starting at 8am with pickups at most hotels in Banff, you'll be taken to Sunshine Meadows where you will take a gondola and chairlift high above the treeline to alpine meadows. Spend your day walking the high alpine trails of the Sunshine Meadows as they wind their way past waterfalls, lakes and flower-filled meadows. With a professional interpretive guide you'll learn all about the wildlife, vegetation and ecosystem of this fascinating world above treeline. Transportation from all hotels in Banff included along with a packed lunch. Gondola and Standish Chairlift included ($42 value!)

Banff pickup time: 8:15 am. Return approx. 3:00 pm

A top activity from our three weeks in the Canadian Rockies. Owen our guide was fun, informative and a genuinely nice person. The views were spectacular and flower meadows amazing. The chair lift was fun and we had a really great day, thank you. O’Fee family Guildford, UK

This was an easy and enjoyable hike. Our guide was Sarah and she was amazing! She was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and the surroundings and history of the place. Thank you Sarah for storing my jacket in your locker so I wouldn't have to shlep it on the hike! It was much appreciated! And thanks for an amazing morning!

We had a fabulous hike (11km but can be shortened) with our guide Pablo who made it both fun and fascinating. In addition to his great guiding skills and warm and friendly personality, Pablo was so knowledgeable about the Rockies, and even threw in some geology and glaciology along with identifying flora and fauna. The wildflowers were beautiful, the lakes stunning and the views everywhere were simply spectacular! We did the slightly harder version, walking up from the gondola (instead of the chairlift) and around both loops, and loved every minute. If we ever come back to Canada we’ll be back to White Mountain Adventures for sure! Muy fantastico, Pablito!!!

A beautiful hike with lots of wild flowers and amazing views although quite a bit of smoke. Leah our guide found the best spot for lunch and was very aware of everyone’s needs and informative with regards to all the trees and flowers along the way. It was an easy hike even though we did 450 m elevation along the 12 km. highly recommendable

We were really looking forward to this hike, after seeing the beautiful pictures on Tripadvisor & the internet. We weren’t disappointed, as like every other highlight in Banff / Jasper, the views were spectacular & required no filter on the photos. Our guide Marie, was knowledgeable & good humoured, putting those of us in the group with trepidation about bears totally at ease, even making our calls to make the bears aware of our presence, a fun part of the journey. Marie’s experience with the area & the weather also meant that we turned back in time to miss out on a thunderstorm, which would have not only meant we’d have been exposed to the elements, but also have been stuck when the gondola down ceased while the storm passed. Merci beaucoup Marie!
