The town of Windsor is best known for its historical links to the British royal family, and it is suitably steeped in pageantry and history.
Towering over the rest of the town is Windsor Castle, the ancestral home of the English and later British monarchy, and largest inhabited castle in the world.
It has been the family home of British kings and queens for almost 1,000 years and is today one of the official residences of His Majesty The King.
Occupying over 10.5 hectares, the Castle offers a varied day out for visitors, including a visit to the magnificent State Apartments and St George's Chapel. The Castle's State Apartments are furnished with some of the finest works from the Royal Collection, reflecting the changing tastes of the Castle's royal occupants, particularly those of Charles II and George IV.
Many of the works of art are still in the historic settings for which they were first collected or commissioned by the kings and queens who have lived at Windsor.

We had a limited amount of time in London and this was a long, but fun, day. We departed the bus station promptly at 8:00. Our guide, Richard, decided on the order of the stops based on traffic and how to get us the most time at three pretty spread out sites. Richard ran a tight ship as the girl who did not get back to the bus in Oxford found out when we left without her because it was time to go. The name Oxford carries a mystique and an aura of historical signifcance but it basically felt like a lot of college towns. Next stop Windsor Castle. It is worth the upcharge to have access to go inside Windsor Castle. We would have been very disappointed to not have access. We definitely did not have enough time here. Give yourself enough time to get through the state apartments. There was a lot to see and we were almost the ones that did not make it back to the bus in time. Last stop was Stonehenge. We could have used 15-30 minutes less time at Oxford, 30 minutes less at Stonehenge and used an extra 45-60 minutes at Windsor. It was very cool to see Stonehenge and I am happy we went, but it is a long way to go to look at the stones and ponder how they got there. A day trip to Stonehenge would be too much time just for Stonehenge but it was a good third attraction on a tour. We were appreciative of the guy in the Stonehenge gift shop liberally pouring samples of the wines and liquors available. It was Richard's show; he has obviously done this for years and he is very good at it. We knew going in that we would be covering a lot of ground and probably feel rushed, but it was a very fun day. Try to get a seat near the front because that will be your seat all day and the toilet smell got stronger as the day went on, the further down the aisle you went. We got back to London around 6:30. We would recommend this tour and recommend Richard.

The trip was incredibly informative! I thoroughly enjoyed my time even with the rainy weather. The travel was timely and efficient and the coach was clean. I learned so many new interesting facts about the creation of modern day London, as well as Oxford. Mel was incredibly kind and knowledgeable! I would definitely take another tour with him again!
