Overview

Charming Montreal is actually two cities in one: There’s the city everyone knows with its Old World accents, and then there’s the underground city known as RESO. This 1.5-hour guided tour explores the city's popular above-ground sites and the subterranean city where 500,000 people circulate daily among 2,000 shops, hotels, bars and restaurants. Learn about the engineering behind this underworld as you explore the various nooks below one of Canada’s most dynamic cities.

Pass By: Gray Line, Montreal, Quebec H3B 2T9 Canada

Meet your guide inside the Tourist Information Center for your afternoon tour of Montreal’s RESO, the world’s longest underground tunnel network, a multilevel maze of 21 miles (33 km) of walkways, passages and shopping malls.

Start off with an above-ground stroll, hitting some of the major sites in Montreal: the bustling Rue Sainte-Catherine, which runs parallel to the largest segment of the underground city; the neo-Gothic Christ Church Cathedral; Les Cours Mont-Royal, an elegant above-ground shopping mall; and Dorchester Square, the leafy late 19th-century plaza.

And then it’s time to descend into RESO. The Underground City began in 1962 under Place Ville-Marie and has been developing extensions ever since. The 1.5-hour tour covers a carefully selected portion of RESO (from réseau, French for ‘network’) to show you the highlights of this vast underworld. Learn the history of this engineering marvel from your expert local guide and walk the multi-level passageways learning about the best restaurants, bars and shops beneath Montreal.

It was canceled and no one told us . We just showed up to the meeting spot and we were then told. Never received any communication from La Vacanza Travel about it.

There were none. The guide was awful and basically took our group to a Main Street where we stood around until everyone decided to leave since the guide wasn’t doing anything. Went back to tour office and requested refund.

We have bad experience with a car in Montreal. We went to the city centre the next day using public transportation. This is a must for those taking the underground trains.

Below expectations. Spent most of the tour above ground. Tour guide soft spoken and not very knowledgeable. Boring tour.

I booked this tour online and went to the checkin desk to confirm it would take place. I knew from past reviewers that they sometimes cancel tours and don't tell people. We met our tour guide at 1:30 PM at the tourist info center where the grayline booth is located. I think his name was Avika (strawberry blonde hair middle age man). He was local to Montreal. He wore a long sleeve flannel shirt and jeans during the summer so throughout the tour he was sweating a lot. He did not speak loudly. He seemed awkward. He did not make a good tour guide and it was noted by the 5 other people on the tour. 15 minutes of the tour is above ground standing on a corner and the guide pointing in directions and giving some explanations of buildings. The other 30 minutes are below ground. We were done with the tour within an hour. You basically walk through a few malls where they intersect with each other. I thought there would be more history to the tour instead of looking at shops. The only good part was seeing all the malls in a short period of time. All the malls had skylights so you didn't even notice being below ground.
