Overview

Ease yourself into the Canadian wilderness with 3 days and nights at an award winning eco-lodge. Followed by a 3 day wilderness canoe trip in world famous Algonquin Park.

This 6-day package is an excellent introduction to to the wilderness of Canada. It starts off with a 3-day/3-night stay at the award winning Algonquin Eco-Lodge, and it ends with a 3-day/2-night wilderness canoe trip in Algonquin Park.

The first 3 days at Algonquin Eco-Lodge allows you to ease into the wilderness. The Lodge is a remote, off-grid lodge tucked deep into the forests of southern Algonquin Park. It is on the shores of a private lake and a cascading waterfall. Since vehicles are not allowed inside the Park it is a 2.5 km hike to get to the building, but your luggage can be collected for you. Even though the Lodge is off-grid, it creates its' own electricty from the waterfall. Thanks to this system the Eco-Lodge was awarded the Sustainable Tourism Award by the Ontario government.

While you are at the Eco-Lodge you can make use of the canoes, paddle boat, or row boat. The lake is good for swimming and there is a floating swim platform to laze around on. Hiking, fishing, and horseback riding are all options to do.

The last 3 days are spent on a canoe trip. You will meet your guide who will teach you how to paddle a canoe, put up a tent, and start a camp fire. During the day you will paddle remote lakes looking for moose or deer along the shoreline. In the evening you will collect firewood, and enjoy a hearty meal around the campfire. It is not uncommon to hear wolves howling in the distance at night.

All meals are included, as is all camping equipment. You only need a sleeping bag, flashlight, and rain gear (available to rent).

I went in February for 3 days snowmobile trip Monday to Wednesday, with Robin, it all started with the amazing online reservation that really was so good and easy as it explains in details what to expect. Then the promptness of timing, right on the dot all group members met at 12:15 together with the snowmobile providers. We managed to go first day 4 hours then second day whole 6 hours then another 3 hours last day (due to weather restrictions). Accomodation was very nice, very clean, food was delicious, no wifi which might be a surprise to some but it's actually very detoxing for mind and soul, we actually enjoyed the company of the rest of the group each evening around the fire wood place, really enjoyable, Robin has enough team to accomodate various skills and experiences, he really goes the extra mile to make everyone at ease and enjoyable. He also does his best within the trails and weather limitations utilizing his experience to come around with different options if need be. I am actually looking forward to my next trip with Robin.

This trip was up there with one of the best experiences I’ve had whilst traveling. The eco lodge is quaint and homely with good facilities and comfy beds. The meals provided by Geoff and Alex were top notch. The private lake is so tranquil so make sure you get up early one morning and take the canoe out onto it. The self guided walk and canoe trip were also well described to us and easy to navigate. The 3 day canoe/camping trip led by Robin was brilliant, this was by far the best part for me personally. You camp by the lakes, make fires to cook on and head out during the day to canoe and portage (carry the canoe over land) to then return to camp later on. Robin makes all the meals and they’re filling and satisfying after a day on the water. If you’ve never canoed before don’t worry, the routes are nice and easy and Robin goes through the basics before you set off. The packing list provided is spot on but for me personally I’d make sure you have a few decent dry bags to keep clothes and sleeping bags dry in case you tip your canoe but they are very stable (it states garbage bags on the packing). Make sure you have some decent water shoes and hiking boots for the portage as well. I cannot recommend this trip enough! I would love to come back to do one of the longer canoe trips. Book it now!!!
