Itinerary

Stop At: KZ-Gedenkstatte Mauthausen, Erinnerungsstrasse 1, Mauthausen 4310 Austria

Become acquainted with the history of Mauthausen Memorial in a little over two hours during the ride from Vienna. By the summer of 1940, Mauthausen had become one of the largest labor camp complexes in the Nazi-occupied part of Europe. Some 200,000 people have been imprisoned at Mauthausen between 1938 and 1945. About half of them lost their lives. Mauthausen was among the last concentration camps to be liberated by the Allies.

Upon arrival at the Memorial grab your audio guide (available in 11 languages) for a self-guided tour through the preserved grounds. In your own time visit the prisoner’s barracks, roll call area, SS-quarters, camp prison, gas chamber, and the highly rated Mauthausen Museum with the "Room of Names".

The bistro at Mauthausen Memorial serves snacks and drinks if you get hungry.

Duration: 3 hours

Stop At: 4310 Wienergraben, Austria

We'll take you to the Wiener-Graben quarry which is located outside of the Memorial. You'll see where the prisoners produced granite for Hitler's monumental construction projects. In the quarry you can also see the now-closed "Stairs of Death".

We really enjoyed this trip. The tour and museum are really well done. Loved that the group sizes are on the small side so it’s not overwhelming. Our guide took care of the transportation, our audio guides, and stopped for lunch on our way back. We really didn’t have to worry about a thing. Highly recommend.

This was one of the most interesting tours I’ve ever gone on. I learned so much more about this dark horrible tragedy. Josef was an excellent tour guide, very friendly, and we stopped and had dinner at a very nice restaurant. The food was good as well.

This was a very worthwhile experience, and the guide was good and managed things well in addition to providing additional information about the tour and the area. The time was sufficient to take things in without feeling rushed.

It’s an important tour. I’m so glad I did it. Our driver was excellent. The drive was nice.He was informative and helpful. We had enough time to walk through at our own pace with the use of the audio guide. Highly recommended.

Nice drive with friendly driver/guide (Robert). The camp itself is obviously rather intense and depressing given what occurred there but is also a must see. Never forget!
