Overview

Skip the ticketing line to buy the Robben Island Ticket. Take a shared boat trip to Robben Island Museum and explore the island where former South African President Nelson Mandela was held as a political prisoner for 18 years. View his prison cell, and learn about the dramatic history of the island and South Africa from a former political Robben Island prisoner. Take a historical walk in the footsteps of Nelson Mandela on the Long Walk to Freedom pathway.

Kindly note that this offer is for International travellers. (Non South Africans) We encourage SA citizens to purchase their tickets from Robben Island directly. Please also note that this is not a private tour and you will join others on the boat trip and on the guided bus and land tour. You will skip the ticketing line but will still have to queue to board the ferry boat. This tour excludes hotel pick up and drop off. The tour starts and ends at the Nelson Mandela Gateway to Robben Island.

Visit: Robben Island Museum, Cape Town Central 7400 South Africa

Arrive at the Nelson Mandela Gateway to Robben Island Silo District, V&A Waterfront 30 minutes before the time with a copy of your passport on your phone or the original. Please note this is a ticket only and excludes hotel transfers.

Once you have boarded the shared boat with others you will set sail for 30 minutes on the open sea to Robben Island Museum. Upon your arrival at the Robben Island Jetty, you will disembark the boat and be guided on a shared bus with others by an ex-political prisoner at Robben Island Tour Guide for a shared tour of the island. The guide will provide live commentary about Robben Island and its history, indicating the various homes of ex-political prisoners and other landmarks. The tour will culminate with a view of the prison cell where former President Nelson Mandela was held as a prisoner and an opportunity to walk in his historical footsteps on The Long Walk to Freedom.

Once the tour of Robben Island has concluded, you will return to the Jetty.

La Vacanza Travel needs to be clearer in the description; there was a long line to board ferry which we could not "skip". Then everyone is just randomly placed on buses once on Robben Island. After receiving many confirmations, we could not access our actual tickets. Hotel concierge had to telephone the actual third party tour company

The trip was a very eye opening experience. It was very interesting to see what I had been hearing about since childhood.

Unfortunately VIATOR failed to send our electronic tickets , when enquiring for help they ignored all messages . luckily the robben island staff were very helpful after this causing a lot of stress thinking we would not be allowed on the trip and lost our money.

Crying at departure because I never received my tickets after repeated requests to to tour operator. Then I found out that I was charged foreigner rates when I am South African. My daughter and I could not get on the boat. I do not recommend this operator at all. I have asked for a refund and have not heard back
