You have to reserve a specific time slot for your visits which makes sense in the busy season. What doesn’t make sense is that they allow thousands and thousands of people to visit at the same time. It was nearly impossible to see any fish cause of the sheer amount of people blocking everything. In other countries I doubt this would be allowed as it is a serious fire hazard too.

Yesterday I got to enjoy a really great trip to Sea Life Oberhausen. To be honest i really wasn't expecting much, maybe a few fish swimming around. I was very pleasantly surprised with what i found. This was my first time going to an aquarium here in Germany. After checking in we started the "tour de aquarium". Each section was very informative about what types of fish were there and their habitats. The interesting part for me was that the signs were bilingual, German and English. As we wandered through I saw that all of the exhibits tried to emulate the natural environments of the fish and other creatures. About Halfway through the tour we came to the big tanks with the rays and sharks, right beside the huge tank with everybody in it. At this point i happened to talk to a young man there named Dominic(Please forgive me if i misspell names) who was very informative about all of the creatures there and throughout the facility. After a while talking with him my group wandered further through and we took a break at the outside pavilion right by the river otters, which made for a great resting place while watching their antics. After our little break we came back to the area with the rays and sharks, where i happened to meet Nina Nina was a doll, she was very friendly and informative, and i enjoyed my talk with her. Dominic and Nina are both really great people to talk to because not only do you get your questions asked but they also provide enough additional information to answer questions that you didn't even know you had, LOL All of the exhibits were well maintained, and constructed in such a way as to maximize viewing of the creatures inside. At the end of the tour is a large viewing area that you can sit down and observe the great tank where everyone lives. As we were there i happened to see Dominic and he was able to talk at length about each species and the interactions of the different species together. I have to say that Dominic and Nina both were very knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic about what they do. They both showed a flair for not only understanding the questions but were able to answer them in such a way that at no time were the questioner made to feel inferior or unintelligent for not knowing something. All of the personnel that I interacted with were very friendly and courteous and i do apologize for not having everyone's names. They added an extra layer of enjoyment to an really great trip. The only real problem I had there was that some of the changes in the flooring weren't very clearly marked, to me, that could be a trip/fall hazard. Everyone in the group enjoyed our visit as well and we look forward to going back again soon.

Not that great. Older kids would get bored soon. cafeteria is normal. Admission ticket is more expensive than what Sea life has to offer.

Seit vielen Jahren kommen wir in unregelmäßigen Abständen zum Sea Life Oberhausen. In dieser Zeit hat sich leider herausgestellt, dass sich die Anlage schlichtweg nicht weiterentwickelt. Viele Teile des Aquariums sehen noch aus wie vor 10 Jahren und werden Stück für Stück maroder. Ein gewaltiges Problem, das leider sogar mitten in der Woche zum Tragen kommt, sind die sehr schmalen Gänge, die auch an relativ ruhigen Tagen dafür sorgen, dass sich die Besucher durch die Anlage quetschen müssen, um überhaupt etwas zu sehen. Nichts für Menschen mit Platzangst. Rollstühle oder Kinderwagen kann man komplett vergessen. Dazu kommt noch die nervige Musik über die Lautsprecher. Es macht einfach keinen Spaß, sich mehr als 20 Minuten in der Anlage aufzuhalten. In Ruhe die Tiere im Aquarium zu beobachten ist einfach nicht Teil des Konzepts von Sea Life und das ist für 23€ pro Nase einfach schade. Highlights des Aquariums sind der Glastunnel und das Hai-Aufzuchtbecken, vorausgesetzt man kann diese auch wirklich sehen. Es gibt auch eine kleine Außenanlage mit asiatischen Kurzkrallenottern, welche die ewige Menschenschlange etwas auflößt. Davon würden wir gerne mehr in der Zukunft sehen. Vielleicht wäre es ja eine Möglichkeit, nach draußen zu expandieren? Ein persönliches Dorn im Auge sind uns die VR-Spiele und andere Upsell-Gimmicks aka. "Immersive Gamebox" im Ausgangsbereich, die den ohnehin schon schmalen Weg nur noch kleiner machen. Hauptsache, die Betreiber können auf dem letzten Meter noch mit irgendeiner komplett zum Thema unpassenden Apparatur noch ein paar Euro mehr verdienen. Am besten stellt doch noch eine Klauenmaschine mitten im Glastunnel – das wird bestimmt super! Wir wissen nicht, ob Merlin einfach keine Lust mehr auf die Anlage hat, oder sich diese einfach nicht mehr rentiert, aber wir besuchen das Sea Life Oberhausen höchstwahrscheinlich nicht noch einmal.

Wir waren unter der Woche im SeaLife, dementsprechend gab es für uns keine Wartezeiten und auch vor den Aquarien angenehm viel Platz und keinerlei Gedränge. Wir haben (obwohl der erste Themenbereich wg. Umbauarbeiten nicht in Betrieb war und sich auch die Otter bei Dauerregen frei genommen hatten) gut 4 Stunden mit einer interesserten Fünfjährigen dort verbracht, inklusive der "Behind the Scenes" Tour. Die ist zwar nicht sehr lang, aber für unsere Tochter war es ein absolutes Highlight, die Haie zu füttern. Außerdem kompetent, humorvoll und nett vorgetragen - wie wir sowieso das gesamte Personal an dem Tag als sehr angenehm empfunden haben. Die negativen Bewertungen können wir daher gar nicht nachvollziehen - in einer Stunde oder noch kürzer, wie einige hier berichten, kommt man da nur durch, wenn man sich für das Thema tatsächlich gar nicht erst interessiert. Für uns war es aber ein wirklich toller Tag, vielen Dank dafür!
