Overview

Galle is the administrative capital of Southern Province and the fourth largest city in Sri Lanka. Before the arrival of the Portuguese in the 16th century, Galle was the main port on the island and has reached the height of its development in the 18th century during the Dutch colonial period. Galle is the best example of a fortified city built by the Portuguese in South and Southeast Asia that shows the interaction between Portuguese architectural styles and native traditions. The Galle fort is a world heritage site and is the largest remaining fortress in Asia built by European occupiers.

Amazing tour. Chameera was an excellent guide who was able to bring us to the local parts of Galle and the Dutch fort, sharing his knowledge of the area and the country along the way. He bought us several local snacks and drinks along the way and it was great fun trying traditional Sri Lankan street food. If you want to learn more about the fort and its surroundings just book this tour.

Fabulous day guided by Chameera who was very knowledgeable of the history of the fort and made us feel very safe amidst the lunatic Sri Lanka drivers, all of whom were very considerate of a pair of English cyclists. Highly recommended trip.

So much more than just a cycle tour of the fort. This easy cycle covered the local area and sights from the markets, promenade, beach, drink and snack at a local place where we had Falooda and egg rolls. Really informative guide and we criss crossed the small streets of The Fort easily on our bikes- it was a super hot day and if on foot it would of been too exhausting. Highly recommend 😊🚲😊
