Overview

Your adventure begins with a stop at the Visitor Center where you will learn how our Apollo astronauts used this rugged terrain to prepare for their 1969 moon landing.

Explore the monolith's at North Crater Flow, one of the Monument's youngest lava flow areas. Stroll through Devils Orchard for an upfront view of the strange features of this volcanic "island" and learn about our impact on this delicate landscape and the preservation efforts underway to save it.

Hike up Inferno Cone for a bird's eye view of the fissures of the Great Rift and Big Cinder Butte, one of the world's largest known basaltic cinder cones. Take a break for lunch at the Cave Area just before you venture into an ancient lava tube at Indian Tunnel.

Craters of the Moon NM abounds with flora and fauna appearing in different stages throughout the year, so be on the lookout for some of the unique plants and animals that call this beautiful place home!

This isn't just a tour, it's an experience. Craters of the Moon is other-worldly while it couldn't be a more jaw-dropping education in geology, history and ecology. The views are breath-taking, Gabrielle enhances the wonder with her narration of the area's features. She is cognizant of each participant's abilities and special needs which adds to her "perfect hostess" status. This is a must-see and you must experience it with Gabrielle.

Craters of the Moon is spectaclar, and it's even better with Big Green Adventure Tours. Tour guide Gabrielle's knowledge and enthusiasm add an extra layer of enjoyment to an already fascinating trip. From the moment our van left Twin Falls, Gabrielle enlightened and entertained us with facts and stories covering local geography, geology, history, plants, animals and people. From Evel Knevel's Snake River takeoff ramp to a hawk's lava tube hideout, she kept everyone engaged throughout the trip. Big Green gets points for comfort, too. By inviting each guest to pre-order lunch, Gabrielle makes sure to satisfy everyone's tastes and dietary needs. She carefully tailors the adventures to accommodate each person's physicial abilities. AND -- she offers bathroom breaks at every stop. Bottom line: cool place, expert guide, great trip.

We had an excellent time on our guided tour of Craters of the Moon. We've been there twice, now. The first time, we went by ourselves and our day trip was so-so. We really didn't know what we were looking at, so we didn't really get that much out of the area. I just saw rocks. Our second time visiting Craters of the Moon was with Big Green Adventure Tours. Our tour guide made all the difference. Our guide was very knowledgable and was able to point out "points of interest" and explain what we were looking at. It really brought the experience to life for us. There’s no comparison between our first self directed day trip there and our second guided tour trip there. To us it was almost like visiting a totally different place! Our guide really brought it to life! We highly recommend this tour company.
