The Athabasca Glacier is a remnant from the last Ice Age and is constantly receding. It is estimated that the glacier has lost around 70% of its mass in the last 100 years.

Maligne Lake is 13 miles (21 kilometers) long and 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) wide. It is about 175 meters (574 ft) deep at its deepest point. The lake is fed by several glaciers, including the Medicine Lake Glacier and the Maligne Glacier.
The water in Maligne Lake is a beautiful turquoise color. This is due to the glacial flour that is suspended in the water. Glacial meal is made up of tiny particles of rock and sediment that are ground up by glaciers.
