Overview

Tour the remarkable and mysterious undergrounds of the "Wieliczka" Salt Mine, available with a guided group tour in English.

The Wieliczka Salt Mine was listed as a UNESCO site as one of the first objects in the world. It is not surprising, therefore, that interest in sightseeing increases year by year. The charms of the Mine, its mysterious corridors, chambers, salt sculptures and underground lakes can be enjoyed all year round regardless of the weather.

The Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the most recognizable tourist attractions in Poland. About 1 million tourists visit every year. The origins of the mine date back to the Middle Ages. In the 16th century, the Wieliczka Salt Mine was the most profitable enterprise in Europe. Profits from salt extraction in the times of Casimir the Great constituted 30% of the entire kingdom's income. The mine draws the attention of many visitors thanks to the healing properties of salt.

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Wieliczka Salt Mine, Jana Mikolaja Danilowicza 10, Wieliczka 32-020 Poland

The most popular way, the tourist route is about 3 km of winding corridors located between 135 and 240 meters underground. The tour lasts about three hours, in groups of up to 40 people and starts in the Daniłowicz Shaft, where the guide will introduce you to the history and secrets of the mine. The trail leads to the Chapel of St. Kinga, where you can see salt works of art or a spectacle on a salt lake. It is worth knowing that there are approximately 800 stairs on the route, of which 380 are already at the beginning, which is why we suggest you put on comfortable footwear. The temperature below the ground varies between 14-16 C.

This is an amazing experience but you must be mobile as they’re a lot of walking. The mines are well lit and have some beautiful sculpted features

The trip was confirmed by the tour operator the evening before with the time, meeting place and photo of the car that would pick us up. The driver did not show up. When we text the tour operator we we told that the driver is on his way. After additional wait time we contacted the tour operator and we were told that the trip needed to be rebooked for a later time. We could not do it and did not go to Wieliczka.

I recently visited the Salt Mine with friends, and it was an outstanding experience. The range of activities offered within the mine made the visit a fun and learning experience. From learning about the history of the mine to traversing the underground tunnels, everything was just amazing. On the other hand, the transport cost was a bit overpriced as ticket to salt mine is only £20, and I think that was the only downside of the trip being charged £48 per person with ticket included (£28 pp for transport of this distance is bit shocking in a sharing minibus) .The cost of transportation was a little higher than one might expect, making the trip a bit more expensive than it would have been otherwise. Despite this, I would still highly recommend visiting Salt Mine for its historical and cultural significance. It is an excellent opportunity to learn about the history of the region while enjoying an exciting adventure in the underground tunnels. Also, I suggest looking for transportation options that fit your budget so that you don't miss out on this amazing experience. Sharing Taxi for 4 would be around £25 in total (6.50pp) as is simmilar distance to airport itself. We booked on getyourguide.
