Overview

See the best of Malaysia on a 7-day coach tour, traveling round-trip from Kuala Lumpur. Enjoy accommodations at popular resorts in five fantastic locations — Cameron Highlands, Penang, Kota Bharu, Kuala Terengganu and Kuantan — where you’ll discover natural and cultural highlights with your informative guide. Visit the Islamic Civilization Park, tour a tea plantation, and ride a trishaw around Georgetown, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Hotel pickup and drop-off is included, with the additional option to transfer to the Kuantan airport (if you've booked your own evening flight on Day 6) or transfer to the Kuala Lumpur airport on Day 7.

Day 1: Wednesday – Kuala Lumpur – Cameron Highlands

Depart at 8:30am for Cameron Highland, located at 1542 meters above sea level and noted for its tea plantations and cool temperatures. Stop on the way for a visit to see the cottage industry of basket weaving followed by Lata Iskandar Waterfall and a native settlement. Immerse in the cool, crisp air of Cameron Highlands with its wonderful scenery. The tour of Cameron Highlands consists of the tea plantation, tea factory, market place and butterfly farm. Overnight.

Please note: Tea factory operation is closed on Monday and public holidays.

Day 2: Thursday – Cameron Highlands – Penang

Set off in the early morning to Penang. Stop at the Royal town of Kuala Kangsar to see the Ubudiah Mosque, the Iskandariah Palace and Istana Kenangan, which was built without a single nail. These three stops are exterior visits.

Discover the handicrafts of the Royal Town of Kuala Kangsar and embark on a river cruise that includes live narration. Disembark to discover the unique process of keris (dagger) making, a status symbol for Malay royalty and dignitaries. Witness a demonstration of tekat making, where gold threads are intricately embroidered into velvet cushions, an item previously reserved only for the royalty. Lastly visit the Labu Sayong Center to see the uniquely-shaped pots and other artisan crafts. The cool water from the pots is believed to have healing properties.

Cross over to Penang, better known as the 'Pearl of the Orient' via one of the longest bridges in the world. Overnight.

Please note:

• Keris and tekat making are cottage industry craft making activities operated by villagers as part of family tradition. The visiting hours vary from time to time and will not be available during the fasting month, local public holidays or if any family occasions take place on the visiting day
• Kindly be informed that a MYR3.00 Penang Local Government Fee per room per night has been enforced since 1st June 2014. As this is a mandatory State Fee, it will be collected by the respective hotels upon the guest’s check out.Day 3: Friday – Discovery Tour of Georgetown, Penang

It is the most beautiful and largest Buddhist temple complex in Southeast Asia.

Next visit Fort Cornwallis, the landing site of Captain Francis Light in 1786 when he arrived to start the first British colony in Penang. Head to the water village of The Clan Jetties at Weld Quay and travel along Pitt Street, also known as 'The Street of Harmony,' where churches, Chinese temples, mosques and Hindu temples are built have existed peacefully side-by-side for centuries.

Afterward check out the intricate Khoo Kong Si clan’s house, and enjoy a breezy trishaw ride, a still popular mode of transport in Georgetown. While you get to see quite a bit of Malaysia, the tour could have booked better hotels, given the relatively high price charged and low costs of hotels in Malaysia. The person accompanying the tour is really a driver, knowing not much about the areas, who didn't do that much in the tour. The driver, without prior notice, came to our hotel at least 30 minutes earlier. Also it was not clear whether which meals are included in the tour. Also the communication with the tour operator is frustrating, since their reply needs much follow up and often late. If all these are improved, this could be a great tour.

Our guide Arif was great. Very patient with our requests. An expert in all things Malay. He knew his history and current knowledge of each of the cities we visited. He was very personable and a very good driver. The tour however was a little disappointing Melacca was not that interesting and the hotel a little tired. Apparently it’s about to be renovated KL was good and the things we visited interesting. The pewter factory was the most interesting . Cameron Highlands itself was not great as they have destroyed it with construction and greenhouses. Our hotel Strawberry Park was really quite nice but could also use a facelift. Penang was our last stop. Our tour was interesting thanks to Arif. All in all the guide made the trip better than the trip itself. Thanks Arif.

A well-organised tour with a very knowledgeable guide. A great way to see the real Malaysia and meet people other than fellow tourists. As there was so much to see and take in, it could be rather tiring, but worth it.
