Overview

Experience an authentic tea ceremony, which is near the Zen buddhist monastery Daitoku-ji Temple in Kyoto.
Daitoku-ji had many famous priest graduates in the history and has a close relationship with tea ceremony culture which has given a major influence to Japanese culture.
We are also not far from the World Cultural Heritage site, the Golden Pavilion Temple. (Kinkaku-ji)It's only four stops away by bus.
You’ll be provided with a tea container, tea bowl, tea scoops and whisks, and instruction on how to make matcha. You’ll also enjoy two bowls of matcha and two kinds of Japanese sweets.
Tea ceremony is a learned experience, and it leads to enlightenment, similar to Zen’s understanding of realizing the truth through self-discovery.

Itinerary

The tea ceremony is a spiritual journey. All of our tea masters have a Tea Name.(that means having a full professor qualification.)At the beginning of the experience, the host will take you into the tea room to admire the hanging scrolls and flower arrangements. Before performing an authentic tea ceremony, the host will explain a little about the steps involved in the ceremony, the utensils used and the importance of the rooms decoration and layout. Guests will enjoy a seasonal sweet with their matcha while watching the tea-serving process. The experience ends with each guest having the opportunity to make their own bowl of matcha, mastering the basics of tea making. You can enjoy two bowls of matcha and enjoy two kinds of sweets during our tea ceremony. We value our guests’ experience and feelings and we strive to provide memories our guests will treasure.

Nice experience! We enjoyed drinking and learning how to make matcha tea. We were running late but when we got there we were able to catch up and enjoy the time.

The best tea place! We made a mistake in the time and were an hour late, but these sweet ladies were so gracious and right away welcomed us! The ceremony was amazing and we enjoyed all the Japanese rituals! Enjoyed the hot matcha green tea👍. Five starts from us and we recommend this place highly!

Attending a traditional tea ceremony in Kyoto, hosted by a master tea maker, is an unforgettable and serene experience, deeply rooted in Japanese culture and history. The ceremony, often held in a picturesque setting that complements the thoughtful, deliberate pace of the event, offers a peaceful retreat from the bustling city life outside. The master tea maker, with years of dedicated practice, guides the ceremony with grace and precision, illustrating not just the technique but the philosophy behind each gesture and step. The atmosphere is intimate and meditative, encouraging guests to connect with the moment and the meticulous preparation of the tea. The tea itself, usually a vibrant, finely ground matcha, is prepared with traditional tools that are themselves works of art. The whisking of the tea is almost hypnotic, creating a frothy, rich texture that is both a visual and sensory delight. Each sip is a reflection of the tea's depth and the tranquility it is meant to evoke, characterized by its earthy flavor and subtle bitterness that balances the experience. The setting often enhances the ceremony, whether it’s conducted in a historic tea house. For anyone looking to delve deeper into Japanese culture, or simply seeking a moment of peace and reflection, the tea ceremony in Kyoto is a profound and rewarding experience. It invites you to slow down, savor each moment, and immerse yourself in the ritual beauty of this age-old tradition.

The host management was very easy to communicate with, being able to speak English. And I loved that our actual guide through the tea ceremony was very traditional and knowledgeable in the art of the ceremony. Overall, this experience felt extremely authentic and personal. And the location was easy to find with the help of the coordinates shared through La Vacanza Travel! Loved the chill and traditional neighborhood. My wife and I absolutely loved the whole experience! We are filled with gratitude.
