Founded in 1976, The Miami Design Preservation League has proudly offered guided walking tours of The Art Deco District for over 40 years. All Proceeds go towards supporting preservation.
Visitors are introduced to the history, architecture, and preservation efforts of Miami Beach. Tour ticket includes free admission to the Art Deco Museum and Gift Shop.
There are a limited amount of tickets available for each tour, so early bookings are encouraged .
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to tour departure for check-in.

    Thus was an absolutely fabulous tour. Julie, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and shared so much history and fun Miami facts. Well worth the money which goes to the nonprofit preservation group.

    Julie, our guide, did a great job describing the Art Nouveau architecture in South Beach and the historic of Miami Beach. It was a very comprehensive and interesting tour that added to a lovely day in South Beach.

    Traveling with a friend to beautiful SouthBeach and staying at the McAlpin Ocean Plaza. We had no idea we were staying in the historical district with all these beautiful buildings. At night it is even more stunning. We saw that the Art Deco Museum offered daily walking tour. We wanted to learn more about the area and the tour didn’t disappoint. Julie was extremely knowledgeable and the tour was fun, informative and interactive. We highly recommend.

    I'm a writer, and was invited by The Betsy (support this hotel, as it supports artists) to stay in The Writer's Room. I walked to the Art Deco Museum to meet up with my tour on the morning of the eclipse, and had a little time prior to peruse (a.k.a fall in love with a green Regency radio with gold dials.) Damian, our guide, had such a reverence for Art Deco that our ignorant questions (I was guilty of several) clearly pained him--but he answered them with patience and expertise. I learned so much from him in so little time. About Art Deco foremost--he clearly knows the architecture with his brain and heart. But also about South Beach history, culture and so many other things. Here's a small list: sundown towns, integrated planters, unusable balconies, frozen fountains, "duets", red carpet sidewalks, falling coconuts, color-coded world maps, time travel, bas-relief aquatic creatures, why Versace probably bought the mansion he did, fake fireplaces, residential brutalism, a crazy-expensive fire escape, dot dot dot dash (terrazzo victories), etc. etc. The tour moves fast, so be alert (I'm glad I took copious notes). Damian was both an informant and an entertainer. I hope he always inserts his asides. (My personal favourite: "You hear a ghost. I hear a wind."). He took us back in time so thoroughly, or brought history so alive, that when it ended, I didn't know what year it was. I saw the city in a new way afterwards, and I stopped often and stared longer. Don't miss this tour.
