The mission of the Noble Maritime Collection, an art and history museum on Staten Island, is to present exhibitions and programs that celebrate the working waterfront of New York Harbor in the tradition of distinguished artist John A. Noble (1913-1983), and to preserve Robbins Reef Lighthouse and the history of Sailors’ Snug Harbor.
The 28,500-square-foot museum has three floors with galleries, classrooms, a library, archives, and a print studio. The centerpiece is John A. Noble's unique19th-century houseboat studio, restored and installed within the museum. The museum presents 11 permanent and changing exhibitions a year. Lectures and concerts draw visitors of all ages and interests. Ongoing public programs include sea shanty sing-alongs on the third Sunday of every month.
