So interesting! Highly recommend. Learning about the construction of this mountain top retreat was fascinating. Also enjoyed the beating view

We went for a short break (6 days) to Salzburg to celebrate a birthday. We stayed at the Sacher hotel. I can't praise this hotel enough. The décor and atmosphere are 5 star and the staff bend over backwards for you at every turn. Breakfast was a buffet but you can also order cooked items from a menu. The buffet has everything you could want including Sacher Torte and the cooked eggs were fantastic. The Sacher café is rightly hailed as one of the best in the city. We also ate in the Sacher Grill and the food was wonderful (though the wine is a bit on the pricy side). If you go there you must visit the bar - the ambiance is 5 star and the Moustache and Tonic cocktail is heavenly. Apart from the hotel we visited numerous attractions including the cathedral, St Peters, the museums (Domquartier) and did the Sound of Music Tour (which surprisingly enough we both enjoyed). A thoroughly wonderful short break.

The entire event was very well co-ordinated. We travelled in an air-conditioned coach and had a humourous and informative tour guide. At Eagles Nest we transferred into another coach specially used for the narrow road up to the top. Our guide was precise, always kept us informed and looked after us well. Afterwards we stopped in Berchtesgadan for lunch which was one of the best meals we had in Germany. We were delivered back on time, safe and sound. Five and a half hours total which meant we still had time for other things in the afternoon but had maximised our time on the tour. I really enjoy events like this that are well organised and take all the care of details out of your hands.

It was a great 5-hour day trip with a great knowledgeable tour guide Elenka (Sorry if I am pronouncing the name incorrectly) from Salzburg. It is highly recommended for every one to take if you are in Salzburg or Munich. I had a great time. Thank you
