We had a wonderful day in Shimizu with Miyuki. She made it an amazing day with her kindness, humor and compassion. Everyone was really impressed with how Miyuki helped us not only understand where we were but the history, people, culture, and geography of Japan. It’s not common for a guide to be so thorough and engaging. She really cared about all of us having a great time. She also helped us find nice things to do since it was a cloudy day. I loved the Japanese Print block museum. Before we came, they had a rotating exhibit at our local museum. We loved them and were so happy to see this museum dedicated to them. They’re my favorite type of Japanese Art. Everyone was a bit disappointed since we couldn’t get the iconic shot of Mt. Fuji. Everyone was really excited to take the ropeway. Luckily, the weather cleared up enough so we could do it. It was really fun. Glad that we also got to see the beautiful shrine. We also had my 79-year-old mother with us and she made sure that she was taken care of. To get to the shrines, there were tons of steps. It was tough for all of us since they were varying sizes and heights. Initially, my mom was going to skip it and then she decided she wanted to try it. Miyuki was so kind and understanding. She gave her the time to get up there, see it and get back down. She didn’t mind that we needed to take the second ropeway. It was also great that we got to visit the tea farm. Her husband is a tea farmer. She was able to provide interesting insights into how team is farmed, harvested and enjoyed. We also got to try some tea that was very good and I don’t even like hot tea. It was great that she took pictures of all of us all day and that we got to see them and save them from the website. That allowed us to enjoy the moment more and capture our happiness from the day. We were even happy that we got her to join us in a few photos. We also connected because she had studied abroad in Ohio and my family and I are from Ohio. We could not have been blessed with a more wonderful guide. When you go to a foreign country, you want a local that is proud to share their culture and heritage with you while making it engaging and fun at the same time. That is no easy feat. Miyuki is such a lovely person and made it such a special day. She is a treasure. I hope the company and future tourists know how lucky they are to have her.

My family joined in with a number of other passengers on our cruise for a tour from the Shimizu port. Miyuki and our driver was ready and waiting for us when we got off the ship. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate and was very overcast when we arrived, so our plans for the Ropeway and viewing Mt Fuji were not looking good. Miyuki was prepared with several alternative suggestions for us to choose from so that we could still have an enjoyable day. Our first stop was changed to the Tokaido Hiroshige Art Museum dedicated to woodblock prints from the Edo period. This was fantastic as the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh had been displaying a rotating exhibit of related works that we had viewed just before heading off for our Japan trip, so this tied together nicely. By the time we were ready to leave, we found out that the fog had lifted enough that the Nihondaira Ropeway had reopened, so we were quickly whisked off to take the ride on the ropeway to see the Kunozan Toshogu Shrine. Afterwards we stopped for tea at a working tea farm. Mt Fuji was still obscured, so we headed back to the ship. I should also point out that Miyuki gave continuous commentary throughout the entire trip. She was great. Very personable and lots of great facts and stories to share. As we approached the ship, Mt Fuji suddenly emerged from the clouds and we got our first look. Amazing end to the day. Highly recommend Local Travel Partners, and Miyuki in particular. She even translated the fortune slips we had purchased at the temple and emailed us back the results by the time we had returned home!

Miyouke was wonderful. She had a specific itinerary laid out and accompanied us the whole time. She made our day in Mt Fuji quite memorable with walking around the black sand beach to see Mt Fuji, local shrine and temples, cable car rope ride, taking pictures of us on her phone too and emailed out to us. We learn interesting and knowledgeable history, culture, language, customs and traditional of her homeland including providing us local snackies, water, The driver was very professional and van was clean. Highly recommend this tour guide!

We truly enjoyed our time with Kyla visiting the sights near Shimizu. Although it was a rainy day and we could not view Mt. Fuji, the time at the Heritage Center and other spots made up for it. Upon return to the port we actually caught a glimpse of Mt Fuji making for a perfect day.
