Overview

Combine sightseeing and river rafting on this relaxing Skagway shore excursion. Enjoy a beautiful 10-mile (16-km) drive along the coast to the Dyea Valley, an old Gold Rush settlement rich with history. On the drive, you may spot seals, eagles and other wildlife. See the start of the famous Chilkoot Trail, where thousands journeyed in pursuit of gold in 1898. Gear up with lifejackets, rubber boots, and rain ponchos (if necessary) for the peaceful (approx. 40 minute) float through lush coastal forest with mountain views. Enjoy nature away from the crowds in a beautiful Alaskan setting.

Look for a representative holding a SKAGWAY FLOAT TOURS sign. Please be 10 minutes early. For Broadway and Ore dock, meet off the pier where the dock meets land just outside the security gate next to a large parking area. For the Railroad dock, there are two docking positions. For ships tendering to the small boat harbor, walk up the ramp after disembarking the tender and look to your left for Zone B meeting area. If you are taking a shuttle bus off the pier from your ship, once you get off the shuttle bus look to your right for Zone B. Zone B is near Skagway Fish Co.

Travelled through Celebrity Cruise and booked directly with Trip Advisor. Transport was easy and stress free. Pickup was right where the shuttle provided by the cruise ship dropped off passengers when arriving at Skagway Port. Very scenic drive to the river but it was a little long. Once at the river, staff provided boots and helped us onto rafts where we enjoyed a picturesque and calm ride. We brought our camera but it was a little bit of a nuisance to use while in the raft. I’d recommend using your cell phone for pictures and bring a pair binoculars for long distance viewing. We also stopped at a few viewing areas on the drive to the river for photo opportunities All in all, one of the best excursions of the trip and I highly recommend

Bob was amazing! He was so knowledgeable and a true expert on raft navigation, history of the river and the area, the wildlife. He is an encyclopedia of knowledge on how glaciers affects the landscape. He made the raft trip exciting and fun, even in a rainy dreary day. It was one of our favorite excursions we had in our 11 night cruise, well worth the money. We saw so many bald eagles. And one even flew right in front of our raft. That was a great trip!

Beautiful, peaceful and informative float trip. Knowledgeable and very competent guide. The wildlife stayed out of sight. I learned a lot about the ecology of the area. We kept our feet dry in big rubber boots.

Met by friendly staff and taken to the river. Plenty of history and local knowledge from the guide. All staff were really friendly and this was a very relaxing way of seeing the scenery of Alaska. I would definitely recommend this trip.

We walked into the Skagway Float Tours office and booked a same-day excursion, the hike and float tour with Bob. He was a wonderful guide with tons of knowledge about the area, as well as some very cool life stories! It’s obvious he loves what he does :) This experience was one of the highlights of our trip. Highly recommend doing this while in Skagway
