To be fair to was a drizzly rainy day, so we didn't get off at any of the stops and don't think we would have apart from one stop. It gives one an overview of Auckland and surrounds. Particularly like the drive around the harbour area.

We were strongly advised to visit the island by people we'd met earlier in our tour because of the wineries, beaches, shopping and views of Auckland, particularly at sunset. We had great difficulty working out whether we needed to book the ferry in advance or not, and if it could be booked with or without the hop-on hop-off bus ticket. In the end, we booked both together and regretted doing so. The bus tour might be good if you are really serious about visiting lots of the wineries and breweries on the island and sampling their goods. For us, we wanted to see the island, learn a bit more about it and enjoy a day out. This tour is a very expensive way to do that with very limited commentary about the island, its history, culture, highlights or other aspects apart from when each winery opens and closes. This is not what we expected from this type of bus, which we have taken in numerous other places around the world. Initially, there was no obvious signage at the port telling us where to catch the bus, just a queue of people on the opposite side of the road. We were then taken on a tour of the island which was interesting but very much centred on the wine industry. If you want to go to the two main townships, avoid this bus and use local transport instead. If you want to taste lots of wine in several different places, then perhaps this trip is worth the money.

Great way to see the island, with very convenient stops and lovely bus drivers who shared a lot of interesting facts with us. I would highly recommend it

Richard tour guide was excellent! He took the time to tell us some history in what we were seeing. He also was great at interjecting humor.

Visiting some wineries, touring Waiheke Island at our leisure and always retaining flexibility as we travel destinations worldwide was our plan when purchasing the Waiheke Island Hop-On Hop-Off Explorer Bus By Fullers 360 Discovery Cruises. We had a wonderful experience because, in part, we simply decide that we will. Given the many options for stops on Waiheke Island, we had already decided that we would not go with the "crowd flow" and would instead go backwards. We did not play like tourists upon getting off the ferry and went directly (and quickly) to a waiting bus. The many who tarried just had to wait for the next available bus. We got off our bus at Stop #2 but not for the purpose of seeing/visiting anything. We walked across the road to Stop #14 and caught a bus going the opposite way (back toward the ferry) but our destination was actually Mudbrick Vineyard at Stop #15. After a wonderful lunch and wine tasting, we caught a bus to see more of the island and to stop at several other wineries, as the majority of the crowds were going the opposite direction. Stops at Goldie Vineyard, Stonyridge Vineyard, Onetangi Beach and Batch Winery rounded out a fantastic, stress-free day...and the Waiheke Island Hop-On Hop-Off Explorer Bus was with us throughout. Frankly, the total cost for ferry and designated-driver bus transportation was a bargain! The alternative for a limited few would be hiring a private car, driver and tour guide.
