Kundala Lake, Kerala
Located approximately 20 kilometers from Munnar, sitting at a height of 1,700 meters above the sea level, this lake is one of the most popular destinations in the state of Kerala, India.
Many people flock to this place during their Kerala Holiday to see the cherry gardens that blossom twice in a year, making the lake’s surroundings even more attractive, but the most interesting flora to see here are the famous, but rare, Neela Kurunji flowers that bloom once in 12 years, changing the surrounding valleys of Kundala into blue.
One great experience that you will have on the Kundala Lake is witnessing the sun shining upon the surface of the water, which creates a glittering effect that will give you a heaven-like feeling while enjoying the beauty of the place in absolute serenity.
If you love photography, then the majestic landscapes surrounding the lake will give you a lot of opportunities to capture with your lenses. To capture the best photos, it is recommended that you visit the place early in the morning when a blanket of cloud surfaces and gets broken by the first rays of the sun, creating a magical atmosphere.
Another attraction here is the artificial Kundala Dam, which is regarded as the first arch dam in Asia, built in 1946 for the Pallivasal Hydro Electric Project. Here, you can see green valleys, waterfalls, pine forests and tea gardens.
