Tata Tea Museum, Kerala
Located in the Nallathanni Estate in Munnar, Kerala, the Tata Tea Museum tells the town’s eventful story, recounting its transformation from a stretch of forest land that is uninhabited to a place of rich tea plantations.
The popular highlights in this museum include the old machineries that were used for processing tea, displays and photographs depicting how some adventurous planters dared to conquer the wild and became successful with little resource and minimal equipment.
Here, you will be able to know about the old methods of tea processing, which would fascinate even those involved in the modern tea industry. However, your real treat here would be to taste the tea and savor a variety of flavors.
This museum also presents a variety of exhibits that are not directly associated with tea-making, such as those showing the items and activities of infrastructure development that happened in Munnar in becoming a primary tea-producing center in India.
For example, there is a large sundial made by the Art Industrial School in 1913 displayed here on a granite block. It also has a section that features classic furniture, including tables, chairs, ovens and decorative displays, which belonged to colonial bungalows. There is also a burial urn that dates back to the second century BC displayed at this museum. Do not forget to include a visit to Tata Tea Museum in your Kerala holiday package.
