Situated along the rolling slopes of the southern part of Mauritius, the fields of Saint Aubin have been used for the cultivation of sugar cane since 1819. Its name was taken from Pierre de Saint Aubin, who was one of its first owners.
Driven by an enduring desire for high quality, the Saint Aubin Sugar Plantation has managed to meet the challenge of the ever-changing traditions, innovations, environmental factors and human dimensions.
Proof of its success includes the successful introduction of an artisanal rum distillery and a vanilla plantation. Now, the plantation distinguishes itself as a place where the country’s very first agricultural rum was created entirely from pure sugar cane juice. Basically, the estate produces sugar cane to process into sugar and delicious rum.
Since it was built in 1819, this plantation has been home to several managers before being renovated in the 1990s with the aim of preserving a part of the national heritage. Today, you would still see the original ship poles and beams used in its construction.
