Dates of The Qatar 2022 Football World Cup
The tournament will start on November 21, 2022, and will close on December 18, 2022, which is the same day as the Qatar National Day.
As the world cup of many firsts, this is also the first time that the tournament is held during the winter months instead of the traditional summer months of May, June, Or July.
This is mainly due to the searing temperatures in Qatar during the summer that will hit as high as 45 degrees Celsius.
Proposed Stadiums for The 2022 Football World Cup in Qatar
There were five proposed stadiums for the world cup which was unveiled at the start of March 2010. These include the Al-Khor Stadium for Al-Khor City, the Al-Wakrah Stadium in Al-Wakrah City in southern Qatar, and the Khalifa International Stadium.
The proposed stadium will have a cooling technology that can reduce temperatures by up to 20 degrees Celsius. After the World Cup, the upper tiers of the stadium will be disassembled and donated to countries with less developed sports infrastructure.
The 5-stadium project has been designed by German designers Albert Speer & Partners.
According to the bid committee, the Al-Khor Stadium and Al-Wakrah Stadium would have been built even if Qatar will not be awarded the World Cup. But the temporary upper-tier sections will be removed from the original design.

A Major Change in Scenery
Although the 2022 World Cup will not be held in the desert, literally, its location offers a significant change in scenery from the previous tournaments.
The Khalifa International Stadium, which is the first completed venue for the Qatar 2022 Football World Cup, is surrounded by world-class infrastructures instead of long stretches of the Qatari desert.
But the fact that it’s a desert peninsula makes Qatar a different location from the past venues of the football showpiece.
The Last World Cup to Involve 32 Teams
The 2022 tournament in Qatar will be the last tournament where 32 teams will vie for the championship record. By 2026, the number of teams that will participate in the tournament will be increased to 48.
