#1 The Residency




The Residency, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh

The Residency, is also referred as the British Residency in Lucknow.

Located in the heart of Lucknow, it is mostly in ruins but is a famous historical landmark and rightfully one of the top 5 Lucknow attractions.

The Residency was constructed during the rule of fifth Nawab of the province of Awadh,  Nawab Saadat Ali Khan II and was official residence for the British Resident General who was a representative in the court of the Nawab.

In 1857 during India's First War of Independence or the Uprising of 1857 the Residency witnessed a prolonged battle which is known as Siege of Lucknow.

The ruins of The Residency is surrounded by beautiful lawns and flowerbeds and is a big tourist attraction today.

Construction of Bara Imambara started with an objective of creating employment for the people of Lucknow during a devastating famine in the region which lasted for almost a decade.

Chota Imambara or Hussainabad Imambara is an imposing Imambara and one of the most important monument for locals as well as tourists coming into Lucknow.

Chota Imambara and Bara Imambara and not far from each other. It is an imambara ( A congregation hall ) for Shia Muslims and also mausoleum for the third Nawab of Awadh, Muhammad Ali Shah who built Chota Imambara or Hussainabad Imambara in 1838
