There are two other ice formations in the area, which are attributed to Shiva's son Ganesha. Because of stalagmite lingam, Amarnath Cave is considered as a holy shrine to Shiva and attracts thousands of pilgrims every year. It is covered in snow most of the time except for a short period in summer. During this time, people can enter the cave and observe the lingam.
