Robben Island is a very impressive place and should be visited by anyone staying in Cape Town. Our La Vacanza Travel driver picked us up on time, got us through the lines, and met us afterward to return to our hotel. Just what we wanted!!

Our experience was cancelled due to weather. I would wait until in Cape Town to plan to avoid disappointment that can’t be predicted. Waiting on refund for seven people. Cynthia Derrico/Delta Vaca

I would have rated this excursion five stars if we were given enough time to explore a little bit more of the exhibits. It was quite a long talk on the bus but it was very interesting to hear about what an inmate's life was like in the prison. The excursion appeals to people who want to gain an insight into prison life and the history surrounding apartheid in South Africa. Because the original morning booking was cancelled due to bad weather I was placed on an afternoon trip which meant limited time to look at exhibits.

We have been battling stomach bugs, and our driver was so patient with us as we were 5 minutes late coming downstairs. He was punctual picking us up and collecting us and very nice. We were so not with it that we forgot cash for the driver and tour guide on the island, which was embarrassing. The boat crossing was grand and an informative video played. The coach tour guide was great - informative and comical, and our guide of the high security area, a former political prisoner, was excellent. It was a very moving and humbling experience, but one I think visitors to this beautiful country and area should definitely do. Lest we forget. NB Take cash if you have time for the shop and for the very quick pitstop. Also, be prepared with drinks and snacks if hungry, as there was no time to go to the shop on arrival or before we left as it was closed. Bring tissues in case the toilets are out of paper on the route. Remember a jacket as it can get breezy on the island. In hindsight, we could have probably bought our tickets direct and walked or hopped in an Uber just as easily - sth to note if you are staying nearby, but we were happy to support employment this way.
