The intensive tour of Shenzhen was excellent for the most part. Kudos to the tour operator for arranging first class seats on the train and arranging a wonderful lunch at a magnificent restaurant. But, our guide wanted to have us spend three and a half hours at the knockoff market. All of us had had enough after 45 minutes, but our guide was unavailable for a long time, so we waited.

This was mind blowing. Getting to experience a city that is so so new, yet produces so many of the worlds goods. It was fun getting to bargain with the locals and see different qualities of goods just meters away from each other.

It was a good introduction to China for both me and my daughter. I was not so interested in the shopping part of the trip but i understand that this is how they try to make extra money. The guides were very friendly and helpful and explained many things and were happy to answer questions. The shopping part of the tour we were shown the ''best'' shops to buy from but again I expected this and would not be surprised if the tour and shops have some connection. Anyway it was a nice trip and for anyone else wanted a brief glimpse into China, this would be a good way of doing that :

Not knowing any better, I paid 85USD for the tour. It was way more than I wanted to pay! The tour operator takes care of the Group VISA, warning everyone to stay together... You go by boat to Shenzhen, and the moment you are on board, you know you are in communist china by the attitude conveyed... Very scary... They walk you around minimal sights, steer you into a souvenir shop - where you are held captive for an hour - and then on to some place like Windows of the World - which it wasn't because it wasn't big enough - and then a community dinner which was good - and then a fantastic evening show! The show made it all worth while, but I'll never pay a tour guide again! I'm going on my own in April! It's an easy train ride from HKG, the border formalities, and then onto the subway to Windows of the World!!! Contact me for details...
