Unfortunately, the cooking class was cancelled by the organiser, I only found out on the morning of the class when I was confirming the name of the restaurant that would be hosting the cooking class. They asked me to come the week after which was impossible as we were only in Istanbul for 2 days. We were very disappointed, as we had been looking forward to this opportunity during our stay in Istanbul...
Food was mediocre, definitely overpriced for what we learned . The chef was a young girl and she was very sweet and friendly but the flavor of food was just okay. We’ve done many cooking classes all over the world this was probably the most expensive and not that great. On the description they say wine tasting and that was not even offered, I wouldn’t recommend it.
It was a great experience! The restaurante is wonderful, the chef, Mr. Neceti Ylmaz, is very personable. The chef that accompanied us was very professional and efficient. We were able to cook delicious dishes from the Otoman cuisine, and had a great lunch.
It's not often you get a chance to do a cooking class in a Michelin restaurant. There was a bit of confusion with the driver telling me to get off at Sura hotel, which is across from the restaurant, with no further guidance..but just make your way to Deraliye Restaurant if you're in that situation. The chef was not just talented but extremely also friendly and of course patient, a must when it comes to me in the kitchen. The dishes were both simple and also full of flavor. You spend about 1-1.5 hours of cooking in total, and you're rewarded with an amazing 3-course meal at the end.
A terrific experience learning to prepare Turkish cuisine. Chef Halil is a fabulous instructor - she provided clear explanations, and demonstrated superb technique. I'm vegan, and was excited to experience how the various spices, ingredients, and cooking process translate to veganism. The entire staff was absolutely delightful and engaging which made for a fun experience.
