In its place, a new Gothic cathedral was built that was consecrated in 1269: From now on, by decree of the King of England, Westminster Abbey was to be a place for the coronation and burial of monarchs.

So much history and a great tour. Audio guide was informative and the Abbey wasn’t too crowded when we went in the morning on a weekday.

Easy to get in and it was good to know we had our tickets booked. We like the self guided tour option.

Audio guide was easy to navigate. It was informative and easy to understand. Instructions before the tour was precise and we just know what to expect.

I made the mistake of booking my ticket through TripAdvisor instead of directly with Westminster Abbey. If you book direct, you go directly into the Abbey at your designated time. If you book through a third party, you have a “voucher” for a ticket and are directed to wait in another line to turn in your voucher for your ticket. This line varies in length depending on the time and day of your visit. We were told we were lucky because the wait time was only about 30 minutes. We happened to arrive 30 minutes early anyway, so it all worked out fine for us. All the people I spoke to in line had no idea they had purchased a voucher and would need to wait in a line to pick up their tickets. Book directly!
