Overview

Take a one day trip from Paris to see the American sector of the Normandy landing beaches.  Leave Paris in the morning via rail. Your guide will meet you personally at the train station in the historic town of Bayeux.

Essential historical background is covered throughout the day, starting with Saint Mere Eglise Church and Utah Beach. Time for lunch is set aside along the coast, with ample choice of cuisine (not included).

The afternoon continues your excursion via minivan to see Arromanches Harbor, the Pointe du Hoc, and the American Military Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer and the visitor center at Omaha Beach.

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: D-Day Beaches (Plages du Debarquement de la Bataille de Normandie), Comite Regional de Tourisme de Normandie 14 Rue Charles Corbeau, Evreux, 27000 France

There is a substantial walk and historical talk at each spot along the coast, including a respectful visit of the American Cemetery and visitor center.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Sainte-Mere-Eglise, Sainte-Mere-Eglise, Manche, Basse-Normandie, Normandy

14,000 parachutists were dropped before dawn on the Cherbourg peninsula. One unit accidentally landed in the village square of Sainte-Mère-Église, with one airman famously left dangling from the church steeple. The story of his survival, plus the liberation of the town, starts the touring day.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Utah Beach, 50480 Sainte-Marie-du-Mont France

Utah Beach was the first beach where Allies landed on the morning of June 6.. The coast was an imperative beachhead in the Cotentin region so as to capture Cherbourg and its deep water port.
23,000 American soldiers at Utah over many days.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Omaha Beach, Avenue de la Liberation, Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer France

"Bloody Omaha" was a crucial link between Utah Beach and the British invasion sector. Mis-timed landings, foundered tanks and lack of focused artillery support delayed the taking of the crucial 8 kilometers, mean to be taken by 7 a.m., to well into the evening.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Pointe Du Hoc Memorial, off route D514, Saint Pierre du Mont France

Visting the stunning cliff where Army Rangers climbed upward, straight into German gunfire is a spell-binding part of the story of D Day. The heroic men had no idea the guns had been moved and concentrated right on their sector.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Arromanches-les-Bains, Arromanches-les-Bains, Calvados, Basse-Normandie, Normandy

The modest fishing and resort town of Arromanches was a key toehold for the Allies on June 6. Remnants of so-called “Mulberrys” remain off shore, where the rough seas of the bay were tamed enough to keep ships anchored and maintain a supply chain for the troops.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Colleville-sur-Mer, Colleville-sur-Mer, Calvados, Basse-Normandie, Normandy

This bluff overlooking the English Channel and Omaha Beach is the site of the American Cemetery and visitor center. More than 9,000 servicemen Lost their lives securing the beaches.
Owned and run by the American Battlefield Monument Commission, the site is 172 acres. A grid map notes grave locations and one very moving spot is the Wall of the Missing.

I highly recommend this tour. I was concerned about not having enough time at certain spots but the time spent was just enough. I loved being able to see a lot of places. Pointe du hoc was very memorable as well and amazing to see the scars still on the land and everything left as it was. Our tour guide was Alex and he was great! Very friendly and knowledgeable. I learned so much with him! He also got us to the American Cemetery in time for taps and the lowering of the flag. It was extremely moving and an experience I’ll never forget. Getting on the train was very easy and Alex was ready and waiting for us at the station. Everything went smoothly! An incredible day and experience!

Despite terrible weather, the sights we saw were beautiful and moving. James, our tour guide, was considerate, patient and a good driver. For the price, I expected a much more informative tour experience. Other tour guides stayed with their groups and explained the monuments in detail, this tour provided 10 minutes or so of information and then let you explore on your own. We were often asked if we had questions but when you are on a tour to learn about history you may not know what your questions are if you aren’t provided enough information/discussion. There is a lot of time in the van between sites and the van was clean and new, with good umbrellas available. However, again, very little information provided while driving between locations. The place that the tour chose for lunch was extremely touristy (located at one of the stops) and the food was pretty terrible. If I were to do it again, I would look for a tour that provided more information, a less touristy lunch spot, and was more engaging.

Great experience! Nice small group of just 8 people so it was easy to gather around the guide to hear the history and see all the really informative maps and photos of the locations. We had ample time at each location, would have been nice to spend an extra 15 minutes at Utah Beach since we were so early for our return train back to Paris. Round trip from Paris is 16 hours so it’s truly a full day but well worth the journey. We downloaded and watched “Saving Private Ryan” movie on the way back to Paris, very fitting and had a different perspective and further appreciation for the sacrifices the Allies made on D Day after spending the day in Normandy and learning so much more about the events that day. 5 Stars !!

Laura handled the sign up and everything went smoothly. Good communication. We even had to change our plan and she made it seamless. Thomas was our guide on the day of the tour. He was phenomenal. He knew so much about World War II and the battles that took place. We visited all the beaches and cliffs and bunkers. We also visited the museum. And we got into an actual German bunker. The cemetery where 2500 American soldiers are buried, was extremely moving. Great tour with this group.

Ive wanted to visit the D Day sites since I was a kid 50 years ago. I finally did it yesterday which was one of the most memorable days of my life. Eric is amazing with his knowledge of the history of the people and events that took place.
