The Catherine's Palace consists of 2 wings - the Golden Suite of rooms and the Cameron Gallery, designed for Catherine the Great in the classical style. The golden rooms are adorned with gilded wood carvings decorated with crystal chandeliers and mirrors that provide the impression of a bigger space. The doors are also inlaid with gold and when they are opened, when looking ahead, you have the feeling of walking along a golden corridor. The highlight of the palace is an Amber room that was restored to full glory recently after it was destroyed or removed during the WW2.

Pass By: Peter and Paul Fortress, Petropavlovskaya Fortress, 3, St. Petersburg 197022 Russia
The birth place of Saint Petersburg is a real fortress of the 18th century that was first built in wood and then partly rebuilt in stone. The wide walls were designed specially to protect the garrison from sieges, but never saw military action. For more than 200 years the fortress became a political prison, where for several years the outstanding Russian writer Fedor Dostoevsky was confined. Inside the fortress is the highest building of the city-center: the Peter and Paul Cathedral, where all Russian Emperors starting from Peter the Great are buried (except Peter the Second who died in Moscow).

Stop At: Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, Griboyedova Kanala Emb., 2B/A, St. Petersburg 191186 Russia
The Church of the Resurrection, more commonly known as the Church on Spilt Blood, commemorates the Russian peacemaker Alexander II. Although he abolished serfdom he was hated by the revolutionaries, who formed different terrorist organizations with the aim of killing the ruler. Inside, the church looks fascinating, 7 000 square meters of mosaics cover the walls. They are made of melted glass and this technique looks simply spectacular and dazzling!
Duration: 40 minutes

Stop At: The State Hermitage Museum, Palace Emb., 30-38, St. Petersburg 191055 Russia
Take a tour of the Art Gallery that is ranked in the top 5 art museums in the world. The collection is so big that only 13% is ever on display at one time. After the revolution most of the interiors lost their original decor, but 5 gala rooms are still able to demonstrate how sumptuously the Romanov Dynasty lived. While on the tour you will see the cream of the collection: Italian Renaissance art, Spanish Golden Age, Flemish art and French Impressionism.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Zimnyaya Kanavka Canal, Zimney Kanavki Emb., St. Petersburg 191186 Russia
What could be more impressive then seeing the beauty of Saint Petersburg leisurely from the water? The city is criss-crossed with small rivers and canals, which makes the city look like Venice or Amsterdam. Never miss a chance to take a St Petersburg canal tour while you are here!
Duration: 1 hour

Pass By: Saint Isaac's Square, Isaakiyevskaya Sq., St. Petersburg Russia
The fourth largest cathedral in the world is named after the patron saint of Peter the Great. It was designed by a French architect and until the revolution it was the primary Russian Orthodox Cathedral. Richly decorated with precious stones, marble and mosaics, the cathedral is a real masterpiece of 19th century architecture. It took 40 years to build the cathedral and it is now considered to be a world heritage site.

We booked a 2 day tour that unfortunately had to be cancelled because the cruise was cancelled. Working with Alexei Volkov before and after the cancellation was a pleasure. He always got right back to me with any questions we had and his English is excellent. We will definitely book with MaxBaltTours in the future. Thanks Alexei.

Thanks to Alexei with MaxiBaltTours our Baltic Cruise vacation was Fabulous!!! We had the Best Tour Guides, The Best Drivers and Excellent clean vehicles at every port. While researching shore excursions for St Petersburg prior to our sailing date on October 11th 2019 I contacted MaxiBaltTours via email within 20 minutes Alexei called me. I was very impressed with his immediate response. I had advised Alexei we would like to have a private 2 day tour for the 4 of us in St Petersburg Including a folklore show and one important thing was to see the amber room at St Catherine’s Palace. Alexei assured me he could provide this for us. He had then asked me about the other ports we are traveling to and I asked if he could book tours there as well. He replied absolutely and he would provide the city highlights with a small group. After speaking with Alexei for a while I was confident in using MaxiBaltTours for all our tours in the ports we were traveling to. Within 24 hours I received an email from Alexei for tours in Estonia St Petersburg Helsinki and Stockholm. Again I was extremely impressed with his immediate response and he had everything planned with dates and times. The Price he provided us for all ports with visa free In St Petersburg with the folklore show and the amber room was incredible. Alexei at MaxiBaltTours provided the Best Services and Prices.. His tour options and pricing exceeded all other tours that were available. For anyone going on a Baltic Cruise or traveling to the Baltic Sea Cities I would highly recommend using MaxiBaltTours.

We had oringinally booked another tour operator and about 2 months before tour they advised us that they are not able to get tickets into Catherine’s Palace. I am so glad that I was able to rebook through Maxibalttour. Alexei was prompt in responding all emails. Tour was very organized and informative. He was able to get us tickets to the best seats of the ballet show at last minute. Thank you for a wonderful experience in St Petersburg!

My family of 2 adults and 2 teens was looking for a St. Petersburg tour that combines highlights and war, revolution history/sights. Working with Maxibalt was a fantastic experience from the moment I contacted Alexei, owner Maxibalt, to the moment we waved goodbye. Many tour companies offer pretty much the same itinerary and price points. Maxibalt doesn’t have as many online reviews as other well-known companies. What initially drew me to Maxibalt was it came from word-of-mouth recommendation from our travel agent; its website lists a variety of off-the-beaten-path special interest tours along with standard packages; and it has a North American toll-free number! The latter proved to be a key decision factor why we chose Maxbalt. I was pleasantly surprised when the owner of the company in St. Petersburg picked up the call in late evening Russian time. Alexei listened to my family’s interests & time/budget constraints, and quickly came up with suggestion of must-see attractions and explained why. To fit so many potential sights in a short 2 days and budget, I had to make trade-offs. Alexei’s insight on what some top attractions are really like helped me decide on the itinerary and which places to skip inside visit to save time and money. Alexei patiently and promptly worked with us over multiple itinerary revisions, even adjusted the order based on ships in port on these 2 days to avoid crowd. Being able to directly talk to the owner of the tour company made all the difference, especially when it comes to things like payment options. I feel Alexei truly understood our needs and delivered a tailored tour for 4 that cost similar to a standard group tour. Careful planning paid off. Alexei got us early entrance tickets to Hermitage. For the first hour at Hermitage, we were pretty much the only group in each room. It was wonderful to be alone in some of the grandest halls and in front of the most famous paintings at Hermitage. We got to Peterhoff in later afternoon, past the peak tourist hour. Our guide Olga is quite knowledgeable about art and imperial history. She skillfully navigated us around the crowd. We never had to wait in line even when there were huge lineups of large groups. Our driver Vladimir is very courtesy and prompt. Whether our stop was cut short or delayed, Vladimir was right there when we were ready to leave. I’d highly recommend Alexei and Maxibalt to add a personal touch to your St. Petersburg tour experience. Thanks Alexei!

Private tour for 3 adults and 2 children (14 and 11yo) in a large van with microphone. Seems like all the private tours have the same schedule of events as we kept running other private tours from our ship. Lots of crowds in the summer but the perk with the private tour is bypassing the long cues and big bus groups. Our guide Alina was fantastic! Personable and knew everything, even Art History at the Hermitage. Tour was flexible, we even stopped at an independent mall, and switched out a planned Canal tour for the Faberge museum. We had the folk show added, and had dinner on our own at a wonderful authentic Russian eatery called the Idiot. Driver Vladimir was very courteous and we felt safe. He was at the ready for any pickups and we never waited, despite the crowds and traffic. Maxibalt owner Alexi was also a pleasure to interact with in coordinating our tours and timing.
