Overview

Most travelers visiting Agra go to the Taj Mahal and head back not knowing that there is so much more to do in and around this city. On your next visit to Agra, consider going on a licensed river safari on the Chambal River (01 hour drive from Agra) with me Kunal Jain, a wildlife enthusiast and local from Agra. The Chambal River Safari is no ordinary safari, you're going on a safari (motor boats with trained naturalists and life jackets) on a river which was once the bad-lands of bandits and dacoits (like the wild-wild American West). The bandits are now long gone leaving behind a pristine, wild and 'alive' river eco-system in this part of the country. During the safari you get to see on the river banks, gharials (the endangered fish eating crocodiles), Indian marsh crocodile, 8 species of turtles, migratory birds, hyenas, jackals, jungle cats, various reptiles and the rare one - Gangetic River Dolphin (if you're lucky). Private tours available too.

Most travelers visiting Agra go to the Taj Mahal and head back not knowing that there is so much more to do in and around this city than just that. On your next trip to Agra, consider going on a state government licensed and operated river safari on the Chambal River (01 hour drive from Agra). The Chambal River Safari is no ordinary safari, you're going on a safari (jet motor boats with government recognized trained naturalists, captain and life jackets) on a river which was once the bad-lands of bandits and dacoits (like the wild-wild American West). This tour was for sure a "once in a lifetime tour". The Chambal river is an almost untouched ecosystem as it just opened up for tourism. We went there late October with my parents (78-80 years) and kids (7-11) and were not disappointed. Getting into the boat was a bit challenging for my parents as both of them are not so mobile anymore but the team assisted us perfectly. The tour itself was easy peasy and we saw much more than we expected. The area was so full of wildlife, that we didn’t know where to look as the wildlife was all around us. Peacocks greeted us when we got off the car, once at the boat there was a little crocodile already.. One the boat tour we saw Gharials, Dolphins, jumping fish, all kind of turtles and birds and at the end an amazing sunset. Unbelievable, and truly a lifetime experience. Glad Kunal made good pictures so we will always remember this great day! Thanks Kunal & Team

My wife, daughter (13) and I had a wonderful excursion on the Chambal River Safari with Kunal this past weekend. It was a fun and educational diversion from the typical sightseeing in Agra. Kunal is an excellent guide and shared some really interesting facts and stories about the river, wildlife and region as a whole. We were able to spot (and photograph) some unusual species. In addition to his work as a guide, Kunal takes excellent photos as well, so you can sit back and enjoy if you prefer! He also helped arrange for our transport from Delhi and our excellent guide to the Taj Mahal and other sites in Agra. Overall a great experience, and we look forward to touring with him and his company soon.

My son and I went on Kunal's Chambal River Safari and definitely want to take the rest of family back to experience it. Not only did we get to see a wide variety of animals, we were able to learn about the history of the region and all about the wide variety of birds, both native and migratory from Kunal. If you are looking to get in a nature add on to your trip to the Taj I would highly recommend going.
