Overview

Discover Amsterdam's most important sites on this 4-hour walking tour with a private guide. Go to several areas like the Red Light District, the famous Jordaan District, and the lively Albert-Cuyp Market.

At the Red Light District, your knowledgeable guide will share stories and insights about the sex industry, coffee shops, and the area's notorious reputation. Walk along the narrow alleys, peek into the windows, and learn about the legal and social implications of the district's activities.

Next, you'll head over to the charming Jordaan District, known for its beautiful canals, historic buildings, and trendy boutiques. Explore the picturesque streets and learn about the neighborhood's fascinating history and culture.

As you wander through the Jordaan, you'll also learn about its lively art and music scenes, and its cultural significance to the city. See beautiful courtyards, stunning architecture, and hear stories about the area's most famous residents.

Take your pick of several departure times, and meet your private guide near Amsterdam's Central Station. Begin with a walk through the city's renowned Red Light District, where your local guide fills you in on the history of the famously tolerant Dutch attitudes toward the legalization of drugs and the sex trade. Explore this beautiful historic district's vibrant streets and learn about the coffee-shop culture, historical and modern politics, and Amsterdam's history.

Next, head to the famous Jordaan District, a former working-class neighborhood with a rich history. Stop by the famous Anne Frank house and the West Church and wander through the narrow, winding streets that are now home to trendy art galleries and shops. Continue to Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein, and take a break at a local cafe while you soak up the lively plaza atmosphere and enjoy a snack and a drink at your own expense. After you're refreshed, walk through Albert-Cuyp Market, one of the largest street markets in the Netherlands that has everything from vintage clothing to fresh-baked waffles.

On the last leg of the 4-hour tour, visit sites like the 14th-century Begijnhof and the Jewish quarter before concluding your walk at Dam Square or another location in Amsterdam's city center.

Disappointed in tour. He talked about the buildings constantly and very little about history. He walked us all over and we had no idea where we were. He was hard to understand. Over all I would not recommend this tour

This was my 3rd tour during my 2.5 day Amsterdam stay. I made a rookie mistake and didn’t check his credentials at the designated meeting spot (random hotel). This didn’t un nerve me until 1/4 of the way through - when I realized he could be any body leading me through the small desolate alley ways. Alas.. That is on me. But He couldn’t tell me when city hall was built, yet was eager to show me his favorite sex shop. He told me to smile at the sex workers. He waved and smiled at them. He talked at length about the glories of sex work. Suggested a condom I might get for my husband…. asked if I was until hallucinogens… It was just too much for me. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy many aspects of the tour - except that, 2 days later, I’m realizing I did not like the tour. And it costs me $200 more than I had paid for any tour. Live and learn. I should have stopped immediately and asked for credentials. I should have spoken up 10min into the Red Light District. Shoulda Woulda Coulda

I truly enjoyed this tour. Tony was an awesome guide, and was very flexible. We had to stop back at our hotel prior to starting because we had packages to drop off, and he didn’t blink. Highly recommend this tour if you are in Amsterdam. Bring you walking shoes though!
