Fall in love with the Alexander family sheep farm, just as acclaimed director Sir Peter Jackson did, as you journey through the unequivocal beauty of the land with the mighty Kaimai Ranges towering in the distance. Your guide will escort you around the set, showing the intricate detailing, pointing out the most famous locations and explaining how the movie magic was made. You will be fully-guided around the 12-acre set: past the colourful Hobbit Hole™ doors that scatter the hillsides, before arriving at Bagshot Row™ for a glimpse of the interior of a humble Hobbit’s home. The Hobbiton™ Movie Set is a guided tour experience to tantalize the senses of visitors from across the globe. This walking tour allows guests to find themselves engulfed in the sights, smells, sounds and tastes of The Shire™, as seen in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Trilogies.

The extraordinary following that the movies have amassed has led to these tours becoming a must-see for travelers to New Zealand.

You will be taken around the 12-acre set: past Hobbit Holes, the Mill and into the world-famous Green Dragon™ Inn, where you will enjoy a complimentary, exclusive Hobbit™ Southfarthing™ beverage to conclude your own Middle-earth™ adventure.

From 1 December 2023, this walking tour increases to 2.5 hours including transport to and from the movie set and will include an interior Hobbit Hole experience.

I’ve always wanted to visit Hobbiton and every part of the tour exceeded my expectations. I didn’t want to leave. Loved that children are free as my 7 year old attended too and she loved it even though she hasn’t seen the movies. So good that you can now enter a couple of the hobbit holes. This made the tour even better. I could honestly live in one of those little homes. Highly recommend this fantastic tour to anyone whether you have seen the movies or not. Next time I’m in the North I will come for a night tour

We had an absolutely fabulous time at Hobbiton. We went into the tour with high expectations (just look at the rest of the reviews!) but were still very pleasantly surprised by just how incredible and immersive the movie set is, and how wonderful the tour was. We were part of a group walking tour, starting off with a short bus journey from the visitors car park + gift shop to the Shire itself, and ending with a pint at the Green Dragon Inn! Our guide was wonderful (I think she was called Ellie), and made the whole experience that much better by chatting away, giving us plenty of interesting facts about the movies, the cast, the books, and the set itself. I was truly blown away at the level of detail in everything - down to the real vegetables growing in the veggie beds around the sets! We were very lucky to see the newly-opened Hobbit houses (not in the movies, but very intricate sets of how a typical 'Hobbit house' might look, just opened in the last 4 or so months). They were incredible! We loved how interactive it all was - visitors are encouraged to touch and interact with the set as much as they'd like. Could not recommend a tour through Hobbiton more - well worth the money and a true highlight of any NZ trip itinerary!

Our guide was passionate and went out of his way to ensure we enjoyed the experience, helping to take photos etc. The Bagshot Row hobbit hole we visited was simply exquisite. We did not expect the interior to be quite so detailed, and were truly blown away. I had to remind myself at times that this was not a real hobbit residence. My kids enjoyed taking a photo in the bath and in the bunk beds. Allowed interaction one that was a great touch. Thank you so much for the magical experience!

A lifetime experience to have. Surely not a cheap one, but definitely an interesting one, especially if you are into LOTR and Hobbit movies. The tour starts with a tour guide picking you up, getting you with the bus to the filming location, and continues with this tour guide guiding you for few hours through the movie set. At the end of the tour, there is a stop at the pub where you can get a free drink that's included in the ticket's price, any additional drink, or something small to eat. Lately, one hobbit house with its interior has been open to the tour, so now you can even see the interior where some scenes were filmed. I have managed to see that on my tour, so lucky me! I recommend to make your reservation for the place weeks, if not months in advance. The place is completely booked out during the season.

Wow! What a place. We didn’t want to leave Hobbiton, it was so magical. Our tour guide Sarah was enthusiastic, engaging, funny and passionate and she really drew us in to the work behind the scenes. The interior of the hobbit hole we explored was incredible… such attention to detail! We bought the lunch package and the food was tasty - it was nice to sit ‘family style’ around the tables with our tour companions and get chatting. Highly recommend!
