Day 2- Hampi

Vijaya Vittala temple is probably the grandest masterpiece around. It is constructed on a polyhedron foundation.  The musical pillars of the temple is one of the greatest work of art by mankind.

King’s Balance is the next destination. This is a huge stone frame east of Purandara Mantapa. A stone beam is placed on two pillars of stone. Legend has it that the generous Kings of Vijayanagara used to weigh them with gold and gems and distribute it among the poor.

We take a ride on a coracle on the Tungabhadra.

We will visit the Royal enclosures. Some of the memorable structures here are the Elephant stables, Queen’s bath and the Lotus Mahal.

Next on the itinerary is the Zanana enclosure , which was the place for the royal women.

Towards the evening we visit Anegundi village for the cave paintings. The paintings here date back to the Iron Age around 1500 BC.

Day 3- Badami, Aihole & Pattadakal

After breakfast in Hampi, we will drive for 3 hours to Aihole. There are more than a hundred stone temples from 5th century onwards to see. Legend says it is at Aihole that Lord Parashurama washed his axe after killing all the Kshatrayas.

After Aihole, we move to Pattadakal located 14 KMs away. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is an epitome of the Visara style of architecture. The grandest of all temples here is that of Virupaksha, built in 8th Century by Queen Lokamahadevi.

We drive for half hour to the erstwhile capital of the Chalukya Kings,  Badami. Located in a ravine at the foot of red sandstone hills Badami looks mesmerizing surrounded by the Agastya lake. I had a business trip in Bangalore and decided to take a long weekend and visit Hampi. I was traveling by myself as a solo female traveler and needed something safe and stress-free since I didn’t know the language. I had been to India before and found it challenging previously. This tour was great because I got to exposure to the rich cultural history of the area and did not have to worry about getting there/around. Mohan, my driver, was professional, prompt, drove safely and took very good care of me. I would definitely book with this company again the next time I come to India. Thank you Mohan and Five Senses.

We had a wonderful experience with 5senses. We enjoyed our trip tremendously. Our driver Manju was excellent and so nice. We felt very safe and taken care of. The guides were very good especially the guide from Badami with whom we learnt a lot! They were both very kind and knowledgeable. We strongly recommend 5senses.

The four day tour to Hampi, Badami, Aihole, and Pattadakal was one of the most memorable vacations we have taken. Five Senses took care of every detail and were very helpful and accommodating. Our driver, Mohan, navigated traffic with great skill. We felt very safe and in good hands. Our guides, Kodresh and Manju, were very knowledgeable of the area, sites, temples and history. The hotels we stayed at were great and comfortable. This was our first tour like this and we are already talking about coming back to try another tour offering. We have friends who did a DIY Hampi tour and it was very challenging for them, from getting there to hotels, guides, knowing where to go and eat, etc. We highly recommend allowing Five Senses to handle your tour. They book everything. You just need to show up and enjoy the experience. Thank you for the memories!
