While living in Thailand, he became intrigued by Thai architecture and wanted to build a house that was based on the traditional style of Thai houses. The house that was to become known as the Jim Thompson House became a legend of sorts in Bangkok due to its opulence, attention to traditional detail, art collection, and vast vegetation surrounding the half acre of property in the middle of Bangkok.

The Jim Thompson House is a museum in central Bangkok, Thailand, housing the art collection of American businessman and architect Jim Thompson, the museum designer and former owner. Built in 1959, the museum spans one rectangular "rai" of land (approximately half an acre or 2023.43 meters). It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Thailand; sporting vibrant jungle foliage in the heart of the city.

The whole tour is fine, even we waited for more than one hour to get our guide. But just feel very disappointed to the top floor coffee shop staff there. This coffee shop is on the 2nd floor of the silk store. We are Asian and they treat us completely different from the white customers. They smiled to them and gave wet tissue to them. They also talk with them with patient and happy face. When they turned their faces to us, they become impatient and rude. I asked where the garbage bin is, the girl even with a pull down face. This experience reduced our good impression of Thailand and I do think they should train their staff better. We were the only Asian in that coffee shop.

This was the perfect tour; very informative and just the right length. The home and art collection of Jim Thompson are beautiful. His aesthetic is undeniable. The gift shop was filled with gorgeous merchandise. What a wonderful afternoon.

Nous avons pris des billets sur le site La Vacanza Travel pour une excursion à la découverte de la maison jimson. Le chauffeur est venu à l hotel nous récupérer, nous as déposé à destination et ensuite a chercher nos 2 billets d entrées qui nous as remis en mains propre nous avions rdv a 15h10 devant l entree principale pour la visite, le chauffeur est donc réparti sans souci.au moment du début de la visite une dame nous indique que cela ce passe en anglais. Elle parle thaï donc on comprend rien, ensuite une espèce de méchante ( vraiment) femme nous parlent en français en nous disant que dans 25 minutes un guide français viens nous faire la visite.. 2 minutes après une autres arrivent en parlant a moitié français nous prends les billets de mains nous emmène vers la caisse et nous dis de payé les billets car on as pas payé !!! Or nous avions déjà payé via La Vacanza Travel et nous avions les billets, elle as rien voulu savoir elle disais qui fallait repayer, elle as pris nos billets et mis dans sa poche.. on s'est relativement énervé avec elle et on es reparti. En partant elle as lâché cet phrase " c est bien des français riche qui veulent tout pour rien" j ai rien dis je suis reparti, j ai contacté La Vacanza Travel qui sais très bien occupé de nous.en aucun cas je remet en cause La Vacanza Travel ou le chauffeur qui n y sont pour rien du tout. Juste cet espèce de thaï qui nous as vraiment pris de haut.. Nous avions pris un guide français qui connais une fille qui travaille la bas il lui as posé la question et on as eu comme réponse, qu elle ne voulais pas faire venir un guide français pour juste 2 personnes que ça aurait coûter plus cher a la maison jim Thompson que ceux que vallais l entrée du site... UNE HONTE ABSOLUE VRAIMENT !!!! moi qui voulais absolument visiter ce lieu....
