Overview

From the Romans to the Moors to the present day, Barcelona's certainly not lacking in history. Each of the civilizations that passed through the current Catalan capital left their mark. You see it in our buildings and our language, but also in the foods we eat here today. Through the winding streets of the Gothic Quarter and its 75+ year old tapas bars, we'll show you how the story of Barcelona can't be told without its food.

- Uncover Barcelona's secrets on this tour which includes a 50-minute walking history tour.
- Visit a locally-loved bar that hasn't changed its menu since 1945!
- Try the foods that shaped Barcelona and learn how history has shaped the food we eat today.
- Taste Barcelona's classic bites at the few remaining traditional bars in the Gothic Quarter.
- Test yourself in the ultimate local drinking experience: wine out of a porrón!

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Bar del Pi, Placa de Sant Josep Oriol, 1, 08002 Barcelona Spain

We'll start our evening at a bar that opened in 1927 and is a much a part of the neighborhood as the nearby churches and monuments are. Here we'll have vermouth and cava—because why stop at one aperitif when you could have two?—paired with cured meats, cheeses and more.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Gothic Quarter (Barri Gotic), Mediterranean Seafront to Ronda de Sant Pere, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona Spain

Dig into the history of Barcelona and the Gothic Quarter of the past. We'll start our 50-minute historic walking tour with Roman ruins and work our way through thousands of years of history, uncovering secrets and hidden corners as we go. While weaving through the Gothic Quarter, it will become clear to you that the food we eat in Barcelona today would be very different if not for all the twists and turns the city went through in the past.

Duration: 50 minutes

Stop At: Bar La Plata, 28 Calle Merce, 08002 Barcelona Spain

Our second stop opened in 1945, and has been serving the same four tapas ever since! Of course by now, they've perfected each one, and these bites sum up what Spanish food is all about: fresh, local ingredients that shine with little intervention.

Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Bodega La Palma, C. de la Palma de Sant Just, 7, 08002 Barcelona, Spain

Finally, it’s time for a sit-down meal at a tapas bar that originally opened in 1935 as a shop selling ice, wine and olive oil. Here you’ll enjoy a selection of traditional Catalan dishes, along with local red wine. Dinner wouldn’t be complete without something sweet, so we'll finish the night with a classic dessert—the Catalan precursor to crème brûlée.

Excellent adventure in the Gothic quarter. While the closeness In the restaurants at first may have been slightly uncomfortable, that closeness soon produced new friends and new appreciation for the Catalan way of life. Jordy(?) was an excellent guide and his knowledge of the area phenomenal in that he is not a native. Absolutely loved the food, wine, and fellowship!

We were not able to take our trip to Barcelona as planned because of the travel ban put in place, but the tour coordinator company was very understand and generous enough to give us a gift certificate to use for a future tour. Will definitely use it when we finally make it to Barcelona, hopefully sooner than later!

A great evening in Barcelona. Our guide Veronica was excellent, very well informed and with good humor! We visited three very authentic restaurants that we never would have found on our on. The food and wine was top quality and the insightful historical information provided by Veronica was wonderful. This was a delightful evening!

We enjoyed this tour immensely! Our guide was so engaging and informative. Even though it happened just as Le Merce was starting, and the crowds and energy was through the roof, she didn't miss a beat. As a matter of fact, she embraced what the festival was all about and included details of it in the tour. We loved her! The stops were wonderful, the Gothic neighborhood was magical to wander through in the evening. Fabulous, just fabulous experience! We'll probably book the Paris food tour when we visit next spring, based on how much we enjoyed this one.
