Overview

Hit the hiking heights of the Costa Brava, and explore the coastline between Platia de Castell and the village of Calella de Palafrugell on a day trip from Barcelona. The area is one of the unspoiled gems of the popular Costa Brava region, and the best way to discover its secluded coves and little-known vantage points is by foot. Follow a guide at a leisurely pace, see 6th-century Iberian ruins, and finish with a seaside lunch in charming Calella de Palafrugell.

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Platja de Castell, Palamos Spain

The winding cliff-top route is akin to a walk through history. Pass alongside the ruins of a 6th-century Iberian village, perched high on a rugged promontory, and listen to stories about the area’s past. The views are impressive, and the twists and turns of the coastal path frequently give way to jaw-dropping vistas of the Med, lashing against the rocks below.

Make your way down to remote coves and sandy beaches, and enjoy several breaks to cool down with a swim or snorkel. Equipment is provided; you just need your bathing suit. After just over three hours exploring the coastline, finish your hike at Calella de Palafrugell — a tiny village on a bay that’s graced by fishermen’s houses and whitewashed villas.
Head inside one of the village’s seafront restaurants, and relax with a 3-course lunch. Finally, step back inside your minivan for the journey back to Barcelona. Your tour finishes at the start point.

My wife and I had a wonderful Costa Brava trip with our guide, Craig. We enjoyed Craig's commentary along the drive and his selection of scenic stops. The hike along the coast was easy and beautiful, I'm 72 and had no trouble with it. We had a delicious lunch and tour of Costa Brava. Would take this trip again in a heartbeat.

This was an excellent English language small group tour with Craig as our guide. He spoke perfect English. From the moment we got in the van we started asking questions about local history, economy and geography details. Craig's depth of knowledge and the way he provided the information was thorough and entertaining. The ride to Costa Brava and Girona went by quickly and we all learned so much. The sites and views you will see are once in a lifetime! With Craig's help not a moment was wasted. Lunch was local and wonderful. You will be delighted if you take this tour.

We had an amazing hike with our guide Sam! The scenery on the Costa Brava coast was breathtaking and would highly recommend going with a guide to that area. It was great to hear about the history of the region as well, and end with a fantastic lunch in Calella de Parafrugell.

This was overall a fabulous experience given the vistas and immersion with the coastal community away from the hub of metro Barcelona. But I believe the description didn’t detail the level of intensity and amount of time spent hiking. This tour is designed for experienced hikers (or very physically active people) with above average stamina. It is invigorating for those with very active lifestyles who consider themselves to have a committed, regular fitness routine. This is not for someone with a relatively sedentary lifestyle. I’m a 39 year old male and found this extremely challenging. Note that if you think there will be amble opportunities to rest, there are very few and any stopping for you to catch your breath will take away from the fast-paced experience of others in the group and will consume their time waiting for you (however they will be kind and understanding, but keep in mind that your slow pace does shift the overall experience for others). You absolutely do need hiking shoes — not lifestyle sneakers. The hiking inclines are nearly vertical and many portions of the hiking journey are very long. There are a few short stops along the picturesque beach views, but a majority of time (75% at minimum) is spent hiking to reach these areas. The tour guide was wonderful, the meal was full of generous portions and absolutely delicious. No one was left hungry. Because of the weather and fast pace, there were no other water activities other than the cliff diving plunge into the water, which doesn’t take long for those in the group who wish to participate. On a level of 1-10, the challenge of the hike over the course of many, many hours would be an 8. Had I known, I would’ve declined this tour unless there was a modified version that was not as intense. It just isn’t for me, but it might be the right activity for you. Just my thoughts.

This was a beautiful coastal hike along Costa Bravo. We stopped to swim and snorkel, and had an opportunity to jump from a rocky edge into clear turquoise waters. Be prepared for a moderately difficult hike of 3+ hours, wear appropriate shoes, wear bathing suit, hat, sunscreen, water (provided). I would not recommend for small kids, but good for older kids and teens. The drive to and from is 90 minutes, so this is an all day excursion. Our guide, Craig, was wonderful, knowledgeable, funny, and outgoing. We learned about some of the history of the region and saw some breathtaking vistas along the hike. Definitely got some awesome family photos that will make our Christmas card for sure:)
