We had an amazing trip to Montserrat from Barcelona. Our guide Julio was very informative and provided lots of information to us about the Monastery. Julio gave us the option of what we wanted to do at Montserrat, so we took the opportunity to go up in the funicular and see the beautiful sites from the highest point. We were picked up at the port on the day of disembarkation, our driver and guide were punctual and very friendly. We were very happy to have found this tour with Tour Travel and More, it was an amazing experience for the four of us.

The awesome natural setting alone was worth the trip, but the donated art collection is not to be missed. Our guide Angela’s, love of the history and culture of the area was contagious.

We had only a few days in Barcelona, but I was glad we took the time to spend half a day seeing this very unique monastery. The skip-the-line aspect of this tour is valuable. For example, a boys' choir sings at 1 pm (while school is in session) - if you are waiting in line outside you will miss it. At some of our Spain tour spots, the lines were not actually that bad and the "skip-the-line" feature was not really necessary - that is the luck of the draw. But the lines were LONG at Montserrat, so if you can pay for that service you should. There is a museum with artwork collected by monks and donated by patrons, the Black Madonna, and the beautiful church. Is it somewhat like Mont St Michel, where it is a religious site but also filled with many tourists? Yes, but that does not take away from the beauty and unique character of the place. Possibly because they want to encourage visitors, they did not seem to be strict about the dress code (covered shoulders and knees); perhaps as tourism picks back up that will be enforced. Our guide (Angela) was knowledgeable and kind and gave us very interesting background and historical info that we would not otherwise have obtained.

Mari Carmen Rodriguez was our guide for the day along with our driver Juan! The day was PERFECT! Juan picked us up at our Hotel and brought us to the center of Barcelona to meet Mari! They both were fantastic! She had all the tickets previously purchased and we were able to do so much during out time together. We did not wait in any lines to see the “Black Madonna” and we were able to hear the angelic voices of the Boys choir on Monserrat. It was so emotional and moving. The day could not have been any better. Mari was such a joy and education us as to what we were seeing. We were able to do some shopping and I had asked Mari if she could assist me with purchasing a gold medal of the “Black Madonna”. She did happily! If we ever come back to Barcelona (and I am sure we will),we are going to reach out to Mari to be our guide! Thank you, Mari…..it was so wonderful to meet you!

A different experience for those visiting Barcelona. Set in a very unique natural environment, this place has had a deep impact in the history and culture of Catalonia. There are different ways to get to Montserrat , but this tour is by far the most confortable, fast and best prepared to get the most out of the experience.
