Overview

Begin your Mercat del Ninot market tour with a taste of jamon at Josh's favorite Catalan charcuterie. Meet vendors who sell high quality, locally-sourced meat, fish, cheese, and produce and purchase local ingredients like squid or peppers for your paella from Josh's favorite vendors. Learn about the difference between Catalonian and Spanish cultures and about specialty ingredients important to the local diet; in particular, cured acorn-fed Iberian ham. Then walk to Josh's cooking studio to begin your cooking lesson and meal.

Here in a modern, professional-grade kitchen and classic 1800s-style Barcelona dining room chop fruit to prepare sangria! Josh will then show you how to prepare seafood for your paella. Learn Josh's favorite culinary tips, like how to make flavorful fish stock using local rock fish. Expect a hands-on cooking class and enjoy a traditional paella you prepared. Josh will also offer you a chance to caramelize the sugar on the top of your own crema catalana dessert!

Meet your host Josh for a private market tour before you head over to your host's cooking studio for a paella cooking class. This is a perfect experience for anyone looking to connect with local culture over food. After cooking, enjoy sangria, tapas and paella during this unique culinary experience in a beautiful space.

Hard to choose a favorite part! My friends loved the market tour where Chef Josh took us to a local market frequented by locals (not the big touristy one) where he personally knew the food vendors and gave us fascinating history on not just the local food itself but on the market system in Barcelona as a whole. After buying fresh seafood at the market, we took a short walk to his kitchen where we had an amazing afternoon having him walk us through the preparation and steps to making an authentic paella. (I’m not great in the kitchen but even I was able to contribute with his guidance.) The dining room was a beautiful space and a wonderful backdrop to the meal we’d just made. We couldn’t believe how delicious our paella was. And we all now have such a greater appreciation for the dish now that we experienced for ourselves how much care and patience goes into it! Chef Josh’s enthusiasm and breadth of knowledge about the local culture (especially the food) made the experience even more enjoyable! We booked this for a special occasion (my friend’s bachelorette) but I would recommend this class to anyone visiting Barcelona who wants a fun and delicious food-centric experience in Barcelona.

We had a great time walking around the market and getting to know the culture of Spanish food shopping. We cooked the paella from scratch and had a great time chatting, cooking and tasting :) We can totally recommend this also for kids, our 11 and 15 year old had a great time and participated in cutting and cooking. Thanks Eric for a wonderful morning and paella lunch!

Our market tour & paella cooking class with Josh was one of the highlights of our time in Barcelona. Josh did a wonderful job teaching us how to make authentic paella & my son declared it the best meal of our trip (I would have to agree!). The tour of the market was informative as well. Oh, and the sangria was the best I’ve had!

Great time with Josh and cooked a noodle version of paella which was great fun. Nice to have a bilingual host who we could understand completely and intro us to a Barcelona market. Thanks chef josh.
