Overview

More than many cities in Spain, Barcelona is a melting pot. Influenced over the years by cultures from within Spain and beyond, the dishes that we consider traditional today weren't always part of Barcelona's story. But without them the city wouldn't be the same. On this tour, we'll explore a mix of traditional businesses and the ones that are writing that story today, while we discover the real Barcelona through its food.

- Take an insider tour of a market that's always packed with locals (unlike the Boqueria!)
- Learn—by tasting!—how Barcelona's current traditional dishes came to be.
- See the local side of two essential Barcelona neighborhoods: el Born and Barceloneta.
- Try paella in one of Barcelona's most iconic spots, and learn to spot an authentic paella!
- Explore the bakeries, bodegas and food shops that are the heart of central Barcelona.

Stop At: El Born, La Ribera, Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona Spain

In between delicous food stops explore the Born neighborhood. One of Barcelona's most iconic, we know it's on your list to visit anyway—best to do it with an expert. Your guide will share our favorite neighborhood haunts and stories with you.

Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Mercat Santa Caterina, Avinguda de Francesc Cambo 16, 08003 Barcelona Spain

Start your morning at the Santa Caterina Market, a local favorite where the stalls have been family-run institutions for decades! You’ll weave in and out of locals doing their shopping as you learn about their daily customs and traditions.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Xarcuteria Carlos, Mercat Galvany, S N, Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, 08001 Barcelona, Spain

While in the market stop to sample a variety of local Spanish cheese.

Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Antonio Cruz Hernández, Av. de Francesc Cambó, 16, Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona, Spain

Then, of course, try some local cured meats—including jamón ibérico!

Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Bar Joan, Av. de Francesc Cambó, 16, Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona, Spain

We'll head to one of the market's most-loved bars. Open since the 1980s, this is where locals stop for breakfast and lunch while shopping—and that's exactly what we're here to do! You'll enjoy a glass of sparkling cava (the true Catalan way to start the day!) paired with next-level sandwiches featuring treats such as spinach tortilla and spicy Mallorcan sausage.

Duration: 20 minutes

Pass By: Placeta d'En Marcús, Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona, Spain

Pass through one of the Born neighborhood's iconic historic squares.

Stop At: Patisserie Hofmann, C/ dels Flassaders, 44, Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona, Spain

We'll visit one of Barcelona's most loved bakeries to try their surprising speciality -- a delicious filled croissant!

Duration: 5 minutes

Stop At: Torrons i dolços La Campana, Carrer de la Princesa, 36, Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona, Spain

Our next food stop is one of Barcelona’s oldest specialty shops—one of the last of its kind, in fact! Here you’ll taste a variety of the shop’s star products.

Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Basilica de Santa Maria del Mar, Placa Santa Maria 1, 08003 Barcelona Spain

As you are exploring the Born neighbourhood stop see this Catalan Gothic church.

Duration: 5 minutes

Stop At: La Barceloneta, Barcelona Spain

Duration: 1 hour

Pass By: Plaça del Poeta Boscà, Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona, Spain

Pass through one of Barceloneta's local squares.

Stop At: Bodega La Peninsular, C/ del Mar, 29, Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona, Spain

After a morning of exploring (and tasting your way through!) the Born neighborhood, it’s time to head towards the fishermen’s district of Barceloneta! At our first Barceloneta stop, it’s time to practice the art of the Spanish aperitif! We'll visit a local bodega for a glass of vermouth and Barcelona's favorite tapa: the bomba. Considered by locals to be the only tapa ever invented in Barcelona, we'll share its colorful story with you.

Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Can Ramonet, Carrer de la Maquinista, 17, Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona, Spain

At our last stop, we'll finish strong with a traditional Spanish lunch! You’ll visit a tucked-away restaurant in the fishermen’s district that's been open since the 1950s. Here we'll enjoy some of the best homemade seafood paella in town, paired with fantastic local wine!

We loved this small group walking tour. Our guide Benedetta was wonderful. Her English was excellent which isn't always the case with guides. My husband has some physical challenges and she was attentive to his needs and very kind. If we had to think of a complaint, it's that it was almost too much food! Everything was delicious.

Hector, our Devour guy, was brilliant. As simple as that. He had great knowledge about food, both making and tasting, where the best restaurants and ice cream were, where the best markets were. And he also had lots of knowledge about the history of the place. It was very enjoyable and well worth the time and money spent. The day after the trip with Hector we went back to several of the places and that was also very nice to get around and feel that you knew the area.

Our guide, Alex was very informative, prepared and made our tour fun! We started with the beautiful food market and tried several charcuterie items: cheeses, meats and olives. Then on to several more places ending with the best paella. Alex shared all the history of the area and the great food!

Valentina is amazing!! It’s not just a food tour, but learnt a lot about Barcelona as well. We started at a market, and get to sample different types of jamon, cheese, cava, olives & sandwiches. Then we make a walk out, and had various other treats like the best Croissant in Spain, Nougat that is run by the 4th generation, a very local bomba and wrapped up with such good paella. Valentina is so attentive, making sure we are all taken cared of, and also making sure the group is well managed and not in the way of others. Such a pleasant and knowledgeable guide, I highly recommend it. Thank you again Valentina for a great morning & brunch.

This was my least favorite food tour I have ever done. The guide was okay but lacked the energy and enthusiasm I hoped for. He seemed distracted by his phone most of the tour and didn't seem very interested in the experience. Not worth the money or time.
