What Can You Expect?

Your night will begin at Whare Waka Café within the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, where you will be greeted by your host and will finish back at the café where you will be seated for your delicious hāngi feast.

Enjoy a complimentary drink on arrival as you mix and mingle in the charming outdoor setting at Whare Waka Café.

Your charismatic and informative host will guide you through the evening’s events. Watch as the expert hāngi chef unveils your dinner and explains the traditional cooking process.

Be transported back in time as you follow your host on a short bush walk, where you will be approached by two Māori warriors before you experience a traditional challenge (wero).

Prepare to be amazed as the resident performing arts group Te Pitowhenua entertains you with a high energy cultural performance.

Enjoy a delicious buffet dinner of various meats, stuffing, vegetables, breads, salads and steamed pudding for dessert.

    The evening cultural experience and the tour was very enjoyable. Whist the Hungi was delicious it was a bit rushed. This was due to the unexpected large group of Aged Care revered guests and the welcome gratitudes and warm gratitudes we all shared ( which was a very positive bonus to our evening)

    We booked the combo package. The event was well paced and organised. There is some walking but the site provide transport for those who need it. The display is well presented. If you book for the comb0 meal performance and grounds dont arrive too early about 2-3 pm allows you pleanty of time prior to the evening event for a good explore

    The whole evening was fabulous. Much better than the ones I have been to in Roturoa. The concert was very good as was the hangi meal and the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

    My Mum and I came to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds to find out more about our ancestors. Shane was an excellent tour guide through the grounds for our guided tour, the group who did the cultural performance were spectacular both after the tour and during the night time Hangi and Concert experience. The Hangi was so great, sitting next to all different people from all over the world learning about this one culture and sharing stories. The team who prepared the Hangi and did all the greetings and blessings were so wonderful and welcoming. I would definitely come back to do this experience again one day.

    The guide had a nice relaxed style with a typical Mauri droll sense of humour. The concert was clearly aimed at the tourist but still had real feeling. We had little understanding of the issues surrounding the original treaty but have a much better understanding now. Having a ticketing system which allows you to go in free next day too is a nice touch - we popped back to to check on some facts the following day.
