Overview

Tour Sachsenhausen, one of the first concentration camps established by the Third Reich, on a full-day trip from Berlin. Licensed guides trained by Memorial authority provide important facts about the prison cells, laboratories, and gas chambers that you see at Sachsenhausen, which today serves as a national memorial to the prisoners who lived and died there.

Highlights

  • Step back in time on a history tour
  • Instant Confirmation
  • Pickup from a centrally located meeting point
  • Informative, friendly and professional guide

Meet your host in either the east or west of the city — the choice is yours — and then travel together by train (own expense). Your destination is the town of Oranienburg (just less than an hour away) to visit Sachsenhausen, one of the first Nazi concentration camps constructed in 1936. When you arrive, an expert guide leads you inside the campgrounds, where you will learn about the camp's operation and the prisoners who lived and died there.
For nearly a decade the SS imprisoned some 200,000 Jews, socialists, Communists, and liberals, among other opponents to the Nazi regime. The punishment cells, gas chambers and burial pits that you will see on this tour can be overwhelming, but your guide will put the site's history into context with expert knowledge about one of the darkest periods of the 20th century.
At the end of your time at Sachsenhausen, meet your host to finish the day-long trip with a train ride back to either east or west Berlin (own expense).

Our Tour Guide, Mike from N.Z. was exceptional. He was extremely knowledgeable about not just Sachsenhausen Camp, but also about the entire history of all of the Concentration and Extermination camps.
He knew dates, names and places of critical events. His explanation of the politics of Germany at the turn of the 20th century made it much easier to understand how these camps came into existence, as well as how they could have been allowed to operate for so long.
He gave us info on the various buildings in the camp, and what went on in and around the camp.
Mike, you really made this an outstanding tour! My son and I will be talking about this event for years to come. Thanks very much for your excellent work!

Mike was our guide. He had a great command of his subject and was very attentive to the needs of the people in his group.

Josh, our Gide was incredibly knowledgeable, very helpful and My wife 7 I were glad he was our Tour guide, Cannot praise him enough - He also was very good in explaining that it was not just the Jews that were targeted by Hitler's Third Reich, but many other groups - which perhaps may not have been known by all. Although a sobering experience, Josh kept it 'Light' by also focusing on the bravery and resistance of those within the camps, so that the overall Visit did not become too depressing an experience.

The tour was interesting, fascinating, sad, and lightning, informative and heartbreaking. Our tour guide Ronan was well-informed and had lots of information to share during this tour. This is a tour that involves a lot of walking. Come prepared.

Definately worth the money and time. Mike our tour guide was great and very informative and detailed account delivered throughout every part of it. Very bitterly cold in November but somewhat felt even colder on the grounds of the camp so ensure your fully prepared if your visiting around this time with good walking shoes.
