Overview

Learn about extraordinary people with extraordinary stories. Of art and architecture, cinema and squats. War and peace. East and West. A deeper look below the surface of Berlin.

Shine a light into the shadows of history and why it effects the present on the Real Berlin experience. Visit districts that have changed beyond recognition over the decades, through processes as diverse as squatting, revolution and gentrification. Experience the never ending, ever changing chaos. We tell you the stories you don't know, of pioneers of cinema and those who refused to bow to fascism. . We will make you fall in love.

This 3hr tour will include various locations spread across Prenzlauerberg, Mitte and Kreuzberg.

After meeting your guide at the TV Tower in central Berlin, go off the beaten path to discover the real Berlin. See hidden gems most tourists miss on this comprehensive walking tour that allows you to see Berlin through a local's eyes. Since this is a private tour, feel free to capture plenty of photos, ask lots of questions and arrange with your guide to focus on areas that are of particular interest to you.

Check out neighborhoods such as Prenzlauer Berg, Mitte and Friedrichshain. Explore the colorful Turkish area of Kreuzberg and the city's Jewish community. See contemporary and underground art galleries, urban farms, guerilla gardens, organic markets, and incredible street art, graffiti and murals all over Berlin.

Hear about the origins of currywurst, a wildly popular German fast food of fried pork sausage with curry-seasoned ketchup, and Doner kebab, a Turkish gyro first served in Berlin. Visit Prater Garten Berlin, the city's oldest beer garden.

Throughout your 4.5-hour tour, your guide will show you sites related to various countercultural movements, including the student protest movement of the 1960s, the rise and fall of the Baader-Meinhof gang in the 1970s and the May 1 riots of the 1980s. You'll also learn about the electronic dance musical festival called the Love Parade and the hip-hop, reggae and rasta scene of Yaam Beach.

Your private walking tour of Berlin's rich alternative cultural scene concludes at Yaam Beach, but your guide can offer suggestions on how to experience more of the real Berlin.

Peter the guide was great - very knowledgeable and fun. He had some great stories and showed us lots of things we would not have found without him. A good mix of topics. Great to be seeing and hearing of contemporary art, culture and politics. Recommended.

I decided to take this guided tour after a long research and as a recommendation from a blog. However I must say, it shouldn't just be a recommendation but a MUST for anyone inquisitive enough to wanna get a better glance of what the real Berlin is nowadays. Michael David should also be considered the highlight of the whole tour, as he is not just funny but great at cross referencing with fictional characters and quotes. My experience at Berlin simply got an upgrade by choosing this guided tour. Thank you Michael.

I can't imagine a better way to spend 4.5 hours in Berlin than on a walking tour with MD (Michael David). With encyclopedic knowledge, unparalled enthusiasm for his subject matters, and great care for the experience/enjoyment of his tour attendees, MD teaches a rich history of many little-known features of Berlin and provides context for how Berlin has become the place that it is... and is becoming. Told from the perspective of a person who clearly loves their adopted country, this tour is fun, informative and inspiring all at once. Don't miss it!
