Overview

We believe that Turkish cuisine is one of the best and healthiest cuisines in the world. At Cooking Classes Bodrum we offer recreational cooking holidays in an idyllic setting near Bodrum, overlooking the ancient Bargilya lagoon, where even the birds choose to rest on their journeys to the south. Turkish cuisine is a melting pot of traditions and cultures, developed in the fertile lands at the heart of human civilization. There are endless varieties of recipes, with each region, town, and neighborhood having their own unique food traditions. In Bodrum we have access to fresh produce and seafood all year round, making it the place to take a cooking class and to learn about Turkish cuisine. We specialize in Aegean Turkish cuisine, which is mainly based on olive oil dishes and vegetables and herbs. Our cooking classes are an ideal holiday activity for those interested in healthy eating and unlocking the health benefits of the Turkish way of eating.

We drive to the farmers’ market to shop for the ingredients of your lunch, which will be comprised of four cold starters, one warm entrée and a main course followed by desert. At the market you will encounter local food purveyors who offer all manner of self-harvested olives, wild seasonal greens, vegetables, as well as home-made noodles, jams, pickles, breads and a delicious array of cheeses. From the market we will drive to our place to cook, here we will guide you through the delicious secrets of regional Aegean cookery with its accent on olive oil and fresh herbs, a very special and particularly healthy branch of Turkish cuisine. You will be invited to watch the cooking sessions while sipping a glass of wine, or join-in for a hands-on experience if you’d rather. Either way, we guarantee you we will be entertained and with the help of the written recipes we will offer you, be able to recreate the feast back at home.

We will serve you a lunch of all the wonderful dishes we have cooked together, at tables where we will share stories of Turkish Cuisine and cooking traditions in our families while tasting our local wines.

I can’t say enough about how fabulous this day was! Alsi picked us up from the port and took us shopping at her neighborhood farmers market, butcher and baker. Then we went to her home and learned how to prepare numerous Turkish dishes while sitting outside in her beautiful outdoor kitchen. We enjoyed learning all about the Turkish culture while relaxing and enjoying the gorgeous view! If you want to do something special, do this!

Well where should I begin? Asli was the perfect host from beginning to the end of our lesson. She invited me into her home, I met her family and despite being English and speaking beginners English I was made to feel so so welcome! We began our day by visiting the farmers market by the water. What an experience this was. Here the local sellers offered me the best tasting olives and cheese I have tasted in a long time. Plus Yaprak Sarma (stuffed vine leaves) and the spinach cheese pie was delicious. Asli talked to me all about the area and explained to me what the region is famous for. She asked me what food I would like to cook with her, one of my favourite turkish dishes is stuffed egg plants. So this was our main focus. This lesson is great for anyone looking to try traditional turkish markets and cooking traditional turkish foods . As you can see from the photos, we made borek, stuffed egg plants, squash soup with fried bread and 'killed onions' plus stewed Jerusalem artichokes with lots of herbs blackcurrant and black pepper. When I plan my next trip I am planning a trip to visit the winery and restaurant where Asli and her team will I've no doubt look after me. Asli, thank you so much for your company and hospitality. I am very grateful. Zoe xx
